Article from about 4 years ago (the rest is behind a paywall unfortunately) https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/1669125/2020/03/16/rene-maric-borussia-monchengladbach/ Borussia Monchengladbach’s Rene Maric is 27 — and is the youngest and most interesting assistant coach in the Bundesliga. A former amateur player who started coaching his local side TSU Handenberg in Austria at 17, the psychology graduate was one of the main writers for tactics blog spielverlagerung.de. His lengthy essays on the finer details of the modern game didn’t make for easy reading but won him many admirers in the industry. Thomas Tuchel, then at Mainz, commissioned opposition scouting reports. He was later tasked to explain the mechanics of Pep Guardiola’s and Jurgen Klopp’s pressing game to a few Premier League clubs. Work on player analysis for Brentford and Midtjylland followed. Maric struck up a friendship with Red Bull Salzburg’s under-18 coach Marco Rose and was appointed his assistant in 2017. Together, they won the UEFA Youth League in 2018 and were promoted to take charge of the first team. Since last summer, Maric has been working under Rose at Gladbach. The Athletic met him to talk about the lastest tactical developments in the Bundesliga and the art of coaching without prior experience as a professional. How exactly did you get the job at RB Salzburg? I brazenly approached Marco and asked him whether we could talk about tactics and training. We met a few times for a few hours in very relaxed fashion. I didn’t see it as a job interview — I just thought it was really cool that I could chat with someone who had a lot of experience and knowledge at this level. To be the under-18s coach at a club like Salzburg, who place a lot of value on player development, is a big thing....
I'm at a bit "pinch of salt" on that Maric link this morning. He was quote tweeting somebody who was basically parroting what Sky reported yesterday about Still and Maric being in the race. Makes me wonder if he's heard anything formally from sources or is purely commenting on what Sky are saying.
Potentially the best player we had and started the season well. However, when the person who signed him (Advocaat) left after realising that Shorts' tit had run dry and he wasn't going to get the calibre of players he thought he was, he just wanted away asap and it showed in his performances.
I think he maybe could have been adding to it about what he has heard, he's followed by romano so I imagine he's quite credible
Feels like transfer deadline day - we must get someone in by midnight so are moving down the short (long) list...
Listen mate if still doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen, I’m sure I’m in the majority to say forget about what you said about not posting again as you are a valued member of this board. What you bring is 100% better than the bad crack that some posters come out about you, ignore the Neanderthals and keep on doing what you’re good at.
"Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the promotion of Graeme Murty to Head Coach. As part of our continued dedication to succession planning and developing our own coaching personnel, it is vitally important for us to demonstrate a pathway for our coaching staff and people at all levels throughout the club. A rigorous selection process considered many applicants from across the globe, but with Graeme's understanding of our processes, buy-in of the club ethos and dedication to our strategic ambition, he became the outstanding candidate. Mike Dodds will revert to his role as Assistant Head Coach and we thank him for stepping in last season. Graeme will also be assisted by Michael Proctor, Michael Beale and Thanos. We now commence a search for a new Head Coach for our U23 team and hope to have somebody appointed in time for the 26/27 season."
