Good Morning. It's Friday 1st June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Largest Commercial deal in EFL history The Whites are set for a huge financial boost after announcing the largest Commercial deal in EFL history. Global Energy drinks giants Red Bull (the third largest soft drinks company in the World, behind Coca Cola and Pepsi) have bought a minority stake in Leeds Utd, and have been confirmed as official shirt sponsors for next season. The finer details of the deal are still filtering through, but it as far as partnerships go, things are about to get very interesting! Chairman Paraag Marathe wouldn't be drawn into the monetary amount deposited or the stake-hold held, only to say that 'it’s a significant minority investment' and will stay that way, at least for the foreseeable future. Leeds aren't short of capital, in the same way that Red Bull could quite as easily have ploughed their money into a Premier League team, but they chose Leeds "It wasn’t that we were looking at needing capital investment. It’s not that we were looking at needing a front-of-shirt partner. We had other options as well. This came together and evolved over time. I understand the nuance, I understand the potential sensitivities, which is why the chemistry was really important to me. "Six months ago, this was me doing it directly with Red Bull’s sporting CEO, Oliver Mintzlaff. It honestly started as a series of conversations, both on the phone and Zoom and in person, trying to get a feel for each other. "It wasn’t focused on front of shirt (sponsorship), it wasn’t focused on investment. It was, ‘What does something look like?’. My question was, ‘Why? Is there an interest at your end?’, and I’m sure he had similar questions of me. "What I’ll say first of all — Red Bull’s a global sporting organisation with lots of success, not just in football, but they hadn’t been in English football and there are how many clubs in the English pyramid? Of those clubs, they certainly had the resources to do a significant front-of-shirt sponsorship with any of them. Their preference was Leeds United "They could have pursued an investment in any club in English football, and they chose Leeds United. They chose to do a minority partnership — which will continue to be a minority partnership — because they recognised the global potential of Leeds and what this club could be. They believe in our management of the squad and hopefully, specifically, my chairmanship of this club. "That’s not going to change; not today, not tomorrow. This is a minority partnership. The connection with a global sporting organisation like Red Bull is going to raise the profile and elevate the stature of Leeds. We all say this is a massive club, and it isn’t just a story. My sole focus is to make more money and pour every pound we make into (the team on) the pitch. My sole focus is making our team as competitive as possible. "It’s why I’ve said I hope we have a PSR (profitability and sustainability rules) issue every single year, because everything we do is going to be about maximising our ability to be as competitive as we can be. The partnership with Red Bull leads to more profile, to global revenue, to more money to buy players and keep players. That’s all I care about — keeping the squad as competitive as I can." please log in to view this image Leeds to cash in on Piroe Leeds could cash in on Joel Piroe, just twelve months after his £12m move from Swansea City. The versatile striker netted 14 times last season for the Whites, but fell out of favour when Patrick Bamford was fit. The Dutchman's lack of pace was always a concern for Daniel Farke. At the beginning of the season he tried a role reversal with Georginio Rutter but it never came to fruition, as the Frenchman proved too valuable in the No 10 role. Piroe is only 24, and has another three years left on his contract. Buying him was an intelligent move. Even though it hasn't quite worked out, Leeds will at least recoup what they paid for him. Chief Football Writer for the Yorkshire Evening Post Graham Smythe added:- "His goals were important in the first half of the season and he will score a fair few again. But his role needs to be really worked on and defined in the summer if there’s a real point to his presence at Leeds. A sneaky outset bet for a sale if Leeds received an offer that wiped the slate clean.” please log in to view this image What can Red Bull bring to Leeds Red Bull are no strangers to sport. As well as dominating Formula One, they have their own stable of football clubs (RB Leipzig in Germany's Bundesliga, Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, MLS side New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil). Their recruitment and scouting system is second to none, and have often been referred to as the Scouting Kings of Europe. They have a state of the art performance centre in Salzburg, one of the best in the World, and it's open to all Red Bull-sponsored elite athletes. They can be evaluated, worked on, and looked after by a team of performance and medical experts with the aims of maximising individual potential, increasing performance and injury prevention. With coaches, experts and medical staff who work in the fields of strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, mental performance, nutrition, research and development and environmental consulting, it is a specialised, yet also wide-reaching venue, aimed at delivering world class results. Whether it is movement data being analysed and biomechanics worked on to prevent injury, sleep strategies put in place to ensure maximum recovery, full medical checks and even mental performance consultation, no stone is left unturned. Perhaps we are about to see a complete overhaul of Thorp Arch, once one of the best performance centres in the Country - it's long overdue! please log in to view this image
Morning all I'm waiting for the first person to declare this the greatest thing since slice bread without realising that we're going to be swallowed up in to the RB network and rebranded in a few years.
it’s outstanding news… it surely opens the door for king Jesse of Red Bull to return That Canada job means nothing to him
Morning all. It's watch and wait in my opinion, no surprise there. Seen enough new owners in my time and heard virtually every new move being praised from the high heavens to even try predicting what this'll mean. They'll be judged on actions, all of them. In the Bates days we complained every season about our best players being sold to balance the books. Have things changed much, its the same headlines only its better concealed behind the ffp thing. Have we heard that line in the past that every penny coming in will be spent on team improvements? Yes we have. How's the ground improvements coming along btw. Around November we'll know if we've strengthened our squad or not. One things for sure, it needs drastic strengthening before talk of competing at the next level
I get the sarcasm but you've hit one of the nails on the head. The RBN has a tendency of moving their managers around. You've gotta remember Marsch coached NY and was at Leipzig before Salzburg. Yes they have a great scouting system but they also use the Network to filter their better players to Lipzig look at Tyler Adams
Since the son as taken the reins of the business, his prime sporting aim was to get a team in the PL, I'd imagine he's tried the resolve of a few and been knocked back, you'd think Everton would be the biggest club in there atm that need investment but at figures banded around the £1bn mark, why would you, then you have teams like Bournemouth and Brentford but with their limited fanbase, where would the growth be. So if as we all imagine that this is the first step in his dream of owning a PL club and we achieve that, surely that's the club he'll put all his gems in, the one that's in the league with by far the biggest global market.
If we're to use their scouting network, can they please find us a player that can take a corner, hit the target from a free kick. Perhaps a proper set piece coach too.
I really can't see anyone wanting to invest in Everton. They're badly ran and in the finical ****ter. The thing is we are a project and we need time to be where they want us to be. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an aim to get us established on the Asian Markets and that's why we have gone back in for Tanaka.
I don’t mind the sponsorship collaboration, though in truth, I liked the fact we had a local company as our main shirt sponsor. Also thought it looked good on the shirt. I don’t see the RedBull logo whichever colours they use, looking as good. We know bugger all about the financials of the deal, but if it’s a massive increase in commercial revenue over the current sponsor, then it makes sense. On the ownership issue, we have to face that we’re not gonna be owned by any local moneybags. I don’t like the idea of us being swallowed up by a massive conglomerate, I didn’t when 49’s came in. But realistically this is what now happens in English football. As I said at the outset, we don’t know the details. Logic tells me that when 49’s eventually tire of owning us, RB will likely be ahead of the queue.
Morning Leeds fans. Any association with Red Bull scares the hell out of me. It might seem good in the next few years, after all they are a massive global brand with a track record of success in every sporting venture they get involved in. Biggest shirt sponsorship deal in EFL history, what's not to like? What's not to like is this is not just a sponsorship deal, they've bought a minor but "significant" stake in the club. They've got their foot in the door a decade after attempting it for the first time. How long before they end up with a majority stake? What have they done with all their other clubs they have full control of? All of their other clubs now play in red and white, have the company logo on their shirts, even their badges have the RB logo incorporated into them. They change clubs names to "Red Bull - whatever" (hopefully they'll find that a bit more difficult in the English leagues but who can predict the future). They rebrand and rename the stadia, they even tried to wipe out Salzburg's entire history and claim they were a new club founded in 2005 (they didn't quite get away with that from what I can tell). Won't happen at Leeds? Don't be so naive. Their business model is to turn football clubs into soulless marketing machines, end of.
Definitely, there are whole untapped markets out there, we became popular in SA when Bielsa took over,Radz tried the American market with the signings/loan of 3 of their star players, which sort of back fired but we still have a bigger fan base there than previously. Look at the revenue signing Son as bought to Spurs, every angle has to be looked at and I'm sure they will
Exactly what's happened to Man City and what the journalist hackers will do at Newcastle eventually. The yanks have made Man Utd a soulless outfit. Leicester's owners have cheated the system since 2014 and they're supposed to be wonderful people with the heart and soul of the club at the premise. Its the way its going sadly, the days of finding a local business man done good willing to throw the enough at it has gone. Basically what I'm saying is getting an owner without some kind of baggage is very unlikely. Unless you're Ipswich of course
Yes, but at least they still have their own identity. They are not Red Bull Manchester, playing in red and white, with Red Bull sponsorship on the shirt, Red Bull logo as their badge and playing in the Red Bull Arena. They are Man City (with **** loads of money).
Hull owners tried to change their name, they weren't allowed to, so no possibility that will happen. The strip Ell put up yesterday is that anymore hideous than the pink one we've been playing away in most of the season. Football is changing massively and us traditionalists have either got to go with the flow or just say enough is enough. The way things are going without them, folk like Lee who posted his reasons why yesterday are saying that anyway. I got sick to the back teeth of trying to get tickets to games, so eventually gave up the ghost and go and watch league 1 and 2 games. I contacted the club on 4 occasions asking for a fairer way of distributing tickets to members, I never got one reply. My son as just bought a ST for Walsall at a lower cost than my and his combined membership cost here. He goes with his mates to Blyth Spartans away games, has great days out. Lee hit the mark yesterday when he said we are losing younger fans because the way the club have been operating ticket sales So unless we get this 50k plus stadium, that's gonna happen regardless. Of course we could be stuck in this league another 16 yrs and then we'll start getting the begging emails again asking us to fill the stadium and buy matchday tickets
Hull owner tried to change name and were blocked, yes. But that doesn't mean that rule will be in place forever. I don't think it will happen anytime soon, but I fear for our club.
I feared for it more under Bates, and if it wasn't for the mad Italian, I don't know who else would have bought it, I hate to think where we'd be.
I said a year ago that the 49ers would be bad news for us and that they only gave a **** about profit and I was told that this would be different. It's a shame I've been proven right. The 49ers are very well aware that if they get to the lofty heights of the Europe then they can sell to RB for a fair whack. I'm in the same boat as you. This deal scares me cos I know what is coming. I think if you look at the younger end of the fan based all they see is £££ and that's all they care about cos we'll be able to sign XYZ from big clubs in Europe. But at what cost
Much ado about nothing...... All I'm reading is widespread speculation of what MIGHT happen in the future - and all of it off-field. We, of all people, should be used to nonsense going on in the background, but we never miss an opportunity to complain about what might happen. MIGHT! Pretty sure there must be positives about this, but oddly, no speculation about the positives. And as for the red nonsense - why? We've played in red before. It's simply a silly superstition, nothing else. Tin hat firmly affixed .....
