He was charged with 34 felonies from the start. In the United States, misdemeanors are charged directly by prosecutors; only felonies need grand jury indictments. Here's an article from April of 2023 about the 34 felony indictments handed down by a grand jury in this case.

The judge did no such thing and you really ought to find better sources of news.

"Former President Donald Trump's conviction on all 34 state felony counts in New York may mark the close of the trial stage in the hush-money case, but a trio of prosecutions continue to loom over the former president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Here is where each of the three remaining cases stand:

    The documents case
In a case brought in federal court in South Florida, Trump is charged with 40 counts stemming from his alleged mishandling of sensitive government records after leaving the White House and efforts to obstruct the Justice Department's investigation. Two others were charged alongside Trump, his aide Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos de Oliveira. All three defendants have pleaded not guilty.

    The 2020 election case
The second federal prosecution brought by Smith, this one in Washington, D.C., involves Trump's alleged plot to subvert the transfer of power after the 2020 presidential election. He was charged with four counts in August 2023 and pleaded not guilty.

    The Georgia election case
A Fulton County grand jury indicted Trump and 18 allies in August 2023 in a sprawling racketeering case stemming from an alleged scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia."

One of the 12 jurors was a Trump follower who got all their news from his Freedom channel. Even they found him guilty on every count.

Questions that occur to me …

Is this the Osvaldorama Thread or the Politics thread?
    Is Osvaldorama a bot?
Is Osvaldorama the Conspiracist or the Conspiracy?
When will I get the chance to utilise my new cheese pun?

I think fishy puns might be more likely given the pollocks Os talks.

I asked ChatGPT for a cheese pun about conspiracies.

"Did you know some people believe that the government is hiding the truth about aliens? They call it the Parmesan Papers scandal."

    Ok I’ll give it a go …

I asked Os why he believed all these conspiracy stories and he said …

“If the American Patriot, ex and future President of the US of A, loyal husband, feminist and billionaire businessman Donald Trump says their true, then who am I to dis-a-Brie”

I’ve already got my coat and left the building

I know I’m late to this but of course it matters who wrote it. The source of any quote is vital. You surely should know this as you are quick to dismiss anything that comes from the “mainstream media” (or rather the mainstream media organisations you personally disagree with).

If you truly believe the source of a quote or story doesn’t matter then I guess that really world explain a lot about your political posts

Wishful thinking but wouldn’t it be nice to see some high ranking politicians in the UK on trial for some of the things that have happened over the last several years.
I would start with people like Robert Jenrick who helped Richard Desmond avoid paying £45 million in taxes that would have benefited Tower Hamlets, one of the poorest areas in London.
Not sure if that decision was ever overturned but it should be a criminal offence for MPs to use their position in office to protect a party donor in such a way.

Do you make the same statements about the judge in the classified documents case who is brazenly biased in Trump’s favour ? I’ll assume you don’t. Curiously the bias can only go one way when it comes to Trump

I’m sure you’ve posted on here before that you don’t like him and about how if it was ever proven that he was a criminal then you would want the book thrown at him. Although that might have been Tate or Brand (other people you basically jumped to defend in the first instance despite all evidence that they didn’t deserve it). Or it could have been all of them.

But there are loads of people like you - “oh if it’s proven in court”. Then when it is suddenly the goalposts move. And move and move.

Of course he hasn’t. He has consumed media from one side of the political spectrum as always. Likely mostly in tweet form but that isn’t the important part

He can’t get it overturned at the federal level. It’s a state crime. At least not with, um, weaponising the justice system and changing the current rules to work in his favour. But I guess if he did that you’d be suspiciously silent on the matter. It’s a state level crime.
