It's more likely that 800.000 18 yr olds will have plenty of time and energy to spend 25 saturdays going on protest marches against it , but no inclination to spend the same 25 days helping their community.
It's just a gimmick and will never happen, that's the point. The cost of 'helping the community' would be enormous ... ... who pays for transport, clothing, tools, supervisors, insurance, claims for injury, etc. It's absolute nonsense.
The amount of personnel to implement and run this would be enormous. If there's 800,000 'volunteers' as quoted you'd need at least 10,000 people to operate it. As we don't have enough, of those kind of people, to deal with illegal immigrants, hospitals, etc, I've no idea how it could work. It's just another Rwanda style headline grabbing sack of shyte tbh.
Starmer deserves more credit than he is getting. The Labour Party was on it’s knees when he took over. The left wing were dominating the party in a country that is naturally centre/just right of centre. The core Labour support could never fully get behind the likes of Corbyn and Abbott. One by one he’s picked them off and guided the party and its followers towards the centre ground. He’s silenced momentum as well. Never hear about them, now.
He said it would be financed by taking money from the “ levelling up” monies. He argues that if 18 yr olds in North Durham have the same community work opportunities as 18 yr olds in Henley on Thames , the areas will become level . As you say though , it’ll never happen , even if he dies win

I now have a labour candidate I can vote for He isnt even from the the bloody area Doubt he has any sort of grasp of the local wants and challenges. Bloody politics. On the plus side, had my first leaflet drop and door knock from my friendly conservative. Smart fella to be fair and had the local knowledge I wanted to hear. Whisper it quietly but I could go for a pint with him, just one though. Mind you, I asked him to take the neighbours 18 year old away for national service and he wouldnt. Maybe it will have to my local Lib Dem after all.

Not taking the piss mate , this is a genuine question. I'm not a supporter of any party, ive voted differently in the past, mainly with policies that will benefit me and my family. For instance in the 90s I voted Labour as Blair promised to bring back the minimum wage the tories got rid of. That benefitted me so got my vote, thats basically how I've based my voting over the years as to what would benefit me. As I've said unfortunately this time there is no party I have faith in so will vote anyone other than the tories, due to the fact no one can be as bad. I believe lots of people will do this which will lead to a labour landslide. You disagree with this, so I was wondering what their policies are that you think will win people over to vote for them . Like I say it's a genuine question as I'd much rather vote for some one that will really benefit my day to day life

Nobody knows that about any opposition party unless you are a time traveller. Everyone can make up their own mind but to me these kind of assumptions are why we end up stuck with a complete **** show for so long. The opposition "might" well be worse but the bar has been set so low I just can't see how. 12 years of blatant corruption, lies, scandals and pure incompetence is enough of a reason to take a risk on another party for me. It just so happens that the party I usually vote for are Labour, if it was the Lib Dems who were more likely to win I would be voting for them however to get this lot out.
I think you need to look at the past rather than predicting the future. Labour are still embroiled in a civil war with themselves, just simmering below the surface, and have been since Starmer took over. Winning the election might be the catalyst for an immediate challenge. The mentalists couldn't win when they were in charge, so they'll try to wrestle control back after the winning has been done.
