Needing fuel to get to work to feed your kids is somewhat different to a multi-millionaire positioning himself as an advocate for a minority only to turn around and sell them out in the name of mindless greed to add to the wealth he will never be able to spend.

There's necessity and then there's choice. Very very different things.

I also mentioned people who go to work there for money as well.
I don't agree with their politics or for that matter how they interpret their religion but it is theirs. The same as ours is ours, people should be allowed their beliefs as long as it does no harm to others but sadly when it comes to beliefs and religion that is rarely the outcome.
I don't agree with Hendersons choice (badly thought out for money which no doubt was hard to turn down)but in truth it is no different to oil and energy companies or even world leaders dealing with these nations out of greed and necessity but in general for profit and shareholders.
We allow them to run global conglomerates and vote them into positions of power but chastise a guy for voicing opinions on gay right and then selling out for money to kick a ball around a pitch, when our own country has been doing it for years.
I know this is probably not a way that most people want to see this but in truth what Hendo did was distasteful but I don't think it is the worst thing in football and TBH if he did come back then I would support that. He made a mistake and left to go to Ajax in effect admitting it was a mistake for him and owning his mistake, not easy to do if you are a public figure

Saying what he has done is only on par with the corrupt world leaders and greedy corporations that are driving the world to ruin isn't the most effective defence of him I've seen.

    Each to their own.

Spot on mate…wouldn’t disagree with any of that. However, if you accept the choices you make, and use them to your advantage, or, as you say, necessity, it’s sanctimonious to criticise?

I agree with this, it's not as black and white as that. None of this is.

The narrative that Henderson proved everything he stood for was hot air and not real or sold out the entire gay community is also not black and white. It's just another thing he's done in the list, it doesn't erase other things.

    Sunderland supporter
    Hard working footballer
Captained his club to European glory
    Promoter of Rainbow laces campaign
    Supported NHS and other charities
Joined a club in Saudi Arabia

The above statements are all true. The fact that someone who is gay feels let down by him, doesn't mean he didn't do good for the gay community and it doesn't mean he doesn't support gay rights. It's just more complicated.

Not a defense of him at all just pointing out that taking a moral high ground is not the best thing in the world to do, as I stated I find it distasteful but some of the things said by posters needs to be a little more measured. He is not the despot in this story, more the figurehead for some peoples Ire against a morally dubious country and to be fair he made it easy for people to use him as a scape goat.

He’s not the conduit, but he should have had more intelligence to have allowed himself to be placed in that position…. he must have known he would be fair game! Whatever, greed lured him.

Or he was talked into it. He’s a grown man and could have refused, of course.

Everton looking to continue their run of really bad transfer dealings. Why make a loan move for an incredibly average midfielder, who will no doubt will cost a fortune in wages.

A proper Dyche player. He’ll probably do alright for them.

He looked very good at Leeds, I think he’d suit Everton and do well.

Agreed. There’s a good player in there, just needs regular game time in a system that would suit him.

I wouldn’t be def against Clarke leaving if the money is right, he showed against the mags he is not good enough up against a good prem defender. So if the money is right use it to improve.
Rusyn could be used on the left and Tommy Watson should be given a chance to prove his worth.

He can’t be judged on that one game like <laugh> The whole team were ****e and we didn’t have a go. We were also very narrow under that muppet Beale. Clarke would’ve caused Trippier problems if we had intentions to get at them.

He was very good against Fulham in the cup in the previous season. Scored in both games…

Sunderland have opened talks to sign West Ham forward Divin Mubama this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The compensation fee will be set by a tribunal unless his new club can agree terms with the Irons, with Sunderland currently exploring a deal to take him to the Stadium of Light.
