So the curtain comes down on another season, and what a season. From a stuttering start onto 4 straight defeats followed by a 25 game unbeaten run and a final race to the line for automatic promotion that had us believing, despairing and believing again. 26 wins, 87 points, 91 goals, no VAR. A team united A team with an identity A team still a league above Pompey A team to be proud of. Lots of work to do in the summer but for now Thank you to everyone that made this season a success culminating in a day many of us will never forget with a very professional victory at Wembley. And to you guys, cheers for the laughs, for sharing the lows, for experiencing the good times together, some sh1t lost, some friends made. Shall we do it all again next season?......... In the PREMIER LEAGUE? Freed from desire, Na-na-na-na-na, na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na
Good season with great finish, but I really enjoyed the Leihberr era, especially the 2 promotions with Nigel. And a cup (don’t tell anyone at Wembley that it wasn’t worth winning). We had some wonderful players…in fact the whole team was great. And we started the Championship by beating…now who was it…oh yes, Leeds
Fair in the way that we’d all be interested in a better job, but he behaved disrespectfully. I used the term slithering advisedly.
Fair in that he felt he was stitched up when his main sponsor and the guy that got him the job was summarily dismissed (and we'd all have him back like a shot!)
I think the best season was our phoenix from the ashes season under Koeman. Mane, Tadic and Pelle suddenly becoming new heroes was an absolute fairy tale- and proved everything Poch and the other leavers had said wasn’t true (at least in the short term).
Certainly one of the best seasons and the West Brom second leg and Sunday at Wembley will both live long in the memory. As will some of the many late winners! Incredible moments to be a Saints fan which we've all certainly earnt having lived through some utterly dire football and results in recent years!
My favourite season was when we finished 6th under Koeman. Our achievements that season were overshadowed somewhat by Leicester winning the league (and rightly so TBF) but to finish 6th was pretty amazing.
Being honest, that whole era from winning the JPT to finishing 6th under Koeman was incredible. I find it very hard to single out a single season from that era as my favourite.
Difficult choice as they’re all different, but contenders for me are … WGS 2002-3 Season, 8th and Cup Final, Mrs S first games and responsible for her getting a season ticket following season Loved the run from -10 in L1 to Prem and JPT, what a team! Adkins, Poch and Koeman, all great times BTW It’s worth putting saints fc search into Google
The Championship promotion season of 11/12 was incredible. But it's hard to go against winning the playoffs. Winning at Wembley, silverware. Nah, nothing from living memory beats this feeling.
My favourite season was 83/84, despite it ending in disappointment (got me used to disappointment early in life). Still buzzing from Steve Moran’s late goal at Fratton, though wasn’t wholly confident of leaving Pompey alive after that. Then that feeling as the season went on, that we weree going to acheive something really special; then not quite doing it was so Saints. My on-off love affair started then I think, not 76
Winning in the play offs doesn't necessarily mean it's been the best season IMO. The two games, West Brom 2nd leg and the final will stay with me forever. The final itself was the best day I have ever had in supporting Saints and I'd imagine comes second to people who are old enough to remember 1976. But looking at season's as a whole, 2015/16 was so much fun and we were incredible to watch.
That JPT day was very special to so many who missed the experience of 1976. The sight of 000’s Saints fans making Wembley their home for the day, breaking the crowd attendance for the event by some distance, you’re absolutely right, whatever the larger view of the JPT was, no one cared, it was our day and our Cup!!
