Good to see the arrival of some better weather. Not quite so good to see the arrival of the resultant wave of living, healthy young men to our Island, via the channel, French Police, French Navy, UK Border Farce, and Royal National Love Immigrants society
The migrant who was interviewed yesterday said that the French police actually guided them to where their boat was waiting.
Labour is in full pre-election mode now of course. That defection of the Dover MP was a coup when it comes to Labour's approach to this issue, despite some on the Left not liking the cut of her jib. A kick in the knackers for Rishi's Rwanda policy, but also a snub for Reform UK and their "tow 'em back to France" plans. The old Corbynites must be feeling pretty peeved right now. Their darling Diane Abbott is still out of the Party over a year after saying some fairly tame things that she did apologise for. Yet Tory flag girl gets the gold key to the Crapper on Day One, no questions asked. But interestingly no Lefties have defected to Galloway's rabble yet. Maybe they understand which side their bread is buttered on at Westminster. And it ain't the left side. Back on topic though, there is no simple 'answer' because the question is in the eye of whoever is asking it. One way to stop the boats will be to make the illegal migrants legal if they use safer routes. Remove the fear which drives them into the arms of the people smugglers, rather than ramp it up. In one form or another I expect that will be Labour's preferred method, whatever they may say right now. Time will tell. The incoming Labour Government will get their opportunity. They can't do much worse than the last four Tory Governments.
Sun’s out. 288 illegal immigrants arrive by small boat yesterday. None of them have a job, all of them will need somewhere to live, all of them will get free health care, all of them will get free benefits. All of them will have relatives waiting to join them from abroad. Now over 10,000 of them since the start of this year alone. And it’ll get worse once Labour get in. Grab whatever joy you can while you still have time folks. Bad times are coming.
A nest of Asian hornets has survived the British winter for the first time. It's now likely that they will become established which is terrible news for wildlife, in particular bees.
There's a BBC investigation into the people-smuggling bracket, currently running on Radio4 Wednesdays at 9.30 am called To Catch a Scorpion, Scorpion being the name of the head of the racket, who is making as much as 500,000 euros in a day. It's all available on BBC Sounds. Atm it's at the stage where a massive operation by the Belgian police has captured him and put him in jail in Iraq, but before he can be extradicted he has bribed his way out of jail and is free. 3 more episodes to go.
Bribed his way out of jail in Iraq? Surely not. According to the European Court of Justice (and presumably the ECHR) Iraq is a safe Country to send people to. Even young children who were not born there. There is plenty of shame and plenty of blame to go around in this whole sorry business. And frankly, even if Scorpion ends up properly jailed, there are dozens of others like him waiting in the wings to step up.
Why on earth is the UK taxpayer paying to keep Sri Lankans in Rwanda? Surely the Sri Lankan taxpayer should be footing the bill. Pathetic.
And over 300 more arrivals via the channel yesterday, who will all need paying for by us as well. This is a complete and utter failure by our politicians.
