Side point for mods: is it worth merging the Martin In and Martin Out threads and just renaming as 'Russell Martin' so we can chuck all RM stuff in one place? Especially now we've been told that he is still going to be the Saints boss at the start of next season
Will Russell Martin remain as Saints manager next season? Kraft... "Yes, of course. We really believe in him, the team and what they're doing and we don't want to be an organisation that changes course all the time. "I think we put a lot of carefully planned work into the foundations of the club this season to try and get the right leadership team in place. That is both on the football side and the rest of the organisation. We want to build on that for sure." "This season has had some amazing moments, amazing highs, a lot of last-minute winners and a few last-minute sickeners as well. It's been very exciting and a lot more fun when you're winning. I think everyone feels that, the whole organisation, the staff, the fans. "It's been a lot of fun this year. I think Russell and the whole coaching team have done a great job coming into a difficult situation. They gave the whole football department a lift and built what was effectively a new team. There was obviously a lot of change in the teams. "A lot of players left and a lot of players came in. It was really moulding a new team and a pretty radical change in playing style was implemented fairly quickly. "I think it's very impressive and I think he's a great guy. We really enjoy working with him. I think he's done a great job. "Let's hope we get it over the line on Sunday but otherwise, we prepare for next season and then we go again."
I think that things will be a bit easier with a full pre-season with the bulk of the players familiar with the possession playing style and hopefully we will come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders.
Agree, the whole reason I posted the other thread was so that I don’t see “russell Martin out” as the title. But it won’t let me edit it
That’s the thing. He’s finally learned and adjusted things dependent upon the situation. It’s great to see.
He’s done his job, didn’t do it the easy way but it was a fun ride. I still have grave concerns about his style of play in the PL, but he deserves a fair shake.
The fixture list was brutal towards the end of the season. No coincidence that Leeds and Leicester both struggled too. As soon as we got back to playing once a week, we were a far, far better team. But, yes, it helped that Russ finally changed things up. I think him and SR are just trolling us. They knew we'd go up the whole time.
