According to the Institute for Government's website yesterday morning, there were 69 - and 3 more announcements during the day. So I'm expecting there will be 75 by this evening.:)

I was planning a late night for the election results, as I had a list of MPs that I hoped would be defeated. Two who were in danger were Gove and Redwood. It looks as though they can see the signs, and have quit rather than lose.

I have my chance to vote again, and although I didn't think it would make much difference to the result, I wanted to give my MP a good kicking. She is useless, doesn't reply to my e-mails, which I add have always been polite, and turned from a very anti-Brexit MP into a great supporter of it as the lure of a shiny car and red box was dangled in front of her.

Tonight I find out that she is joining the great exodus who will not stand again. My pleasure is diminished. "Dame Andrea Leadsom has just announced that she will not stand at the election." To think she thought she would make a good PM! <doh>

With Gove leaving, maybe parliament will be drug-fee at long last?

Sad news for the sniffer dogs who will be made redundant though...;)

Just wait until the new batch of replacements arrive. The current lot were the best the Tories had to offer <yikes>

So, Trump has been convicted on 34 charges of falsifying business records.

Will some of the people who made millions during the Covid pandemic ever be brought before the UK courts, along with some of the government ministers who pushed contracts their way?

Yup - the ones who were in it up to their grubby armpits - such as Gove, Truss and Patel - will get off scot free.

I suppose at least we're getting rid of Gove - but Truss and Patel are determined to hang around like a bad smell unfortunately. I hope voters do the right thing and get rid of them both.

Truss will never get voted out, think there's something in the water in Norfolk.

Patel can be sent to Rwanda along with Braverman and anyone who agrees with it.

I don't think he has any chance of success with an appeal until it gets to the SCotUS... which has been bought and paid for, and is more corrupt than the tories Covid "VIP Lane" .
Clarence Thomas spouse, Ginny, organised buses to the J6 insurrection.
Samuel Alito flew an upside down Stars and Stripes outside of his residence and an "appeal to heaven" flag (as seen on J6) at his beach home. Again, blaming the spouse.
John Roberts has refused to meet with the Senate Democratic Committee over perceived conflicts of interest.
Gorsuch is a trump appointment and has been oft criticised for not having the intellect to be on the SCotUS. He was the first appointment after the successful republican blocking of President Obama nominated Merrick Garland (now Attorney General).
Kavanaugh is a trump appointment despite clearly not being intellectually up to the task and having had significant debts paid off and significant evidence of his inappropriate behaviour at his hearing. There is also evidence of suppression of details pertinent to his appointment.
Amy Coney Barrett has no experience to speak of to be SCotUS, mainly being a professor of law at Notre Dame and assisting judges. She's also a religious fundamentalist and a cult (not maga) member: proper "handmaids Tale" advocacy. Her spouse is a lawyer, currently representing Fox News!! She replaced the late, great, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

It's a totally corrupted system. Being a felon stops tRump from voting or carrying a gun, but does not stop him from running. If he wins the Presidency then he can pardon himself. What an absolute **** show we're still in for.

I wondered where the Tories got all their ideas from - all bar the one to buy the Met Police that is...

You have to wonder about the Labour Party.

Left-winger Faiza Shaheen, the Chingford & Woodford Green constituency's choice of candidate to stand against Tory horror Iain Duncan Smith, has been deselected by Labour's hierarchy. One of the reasons behind that decision was a complaint by members of the Jewish Labour Movement - who had apparently trawled through her social media accounts and found that she had liked this 2014 video by US comedian/Chat Show host Jon Stewart.

The strange thing is that the content of the video was true in 2014 - and is even more true today. I really wonder what it is that the Labour party and the Israelis are worried about/trying to hide.

From my understanding he can't pardon himself as he was prosecuted by the State of NY, but I may be misinformed.

The SCOTUS stuff is pure nonsense, they need to kick the lot of them out and start again, or limit the time served on it.

You are correct. He can pardon himself for Federal crimes only.

Some what I'd call amazing figures from a snap YouGov poll after he was found guilty. I sometimes wonder about people and what it takes to change their opinions - and what they find as acceptable behaviour from politicians. Mind you, I often wonder about YouGov polls too - and suspect that they are somehow rigged.

They often ask the wrong questions. Or skew questions to get a right leaning overall results. RIRO as my old maths teacher used to say: Rubbish In Rubbish Out.
I regularly find yougov polls irritating.

I've never been able to get my head around the 'weighting' they apply on polls - neither the how nor the why. In polls on support for another Scottish Referendum, they apply weightings based on the result of the 2014 referendum which reduce the value of each Yes vote, giving No a lead. Most companies do the same - bar Ipsos who don't - and their polls usually give Yes a healthy lead.
I've searched in vain for a book called 'Weighting for Dummies' - but there doesn't appear to be one.:(
