My take on this is that the political system itself is broken beyond repair and the collective failure to recognise it and to bring forward meaningful improvements will continue to lead us to very much more of the same abject failure. We'll very likely get a labour Govt. for 5 years..maybe 10...then it'll be a change again.
When it comes down to it,there isn't much argument about what we need and the methodology of achieving it......much improved healthcare throughout the age groups, the very best education for our children and young adults, safe, warm and affordable housing for everyone, opportunity for people to acquire a skill and then to earn a living to provide for them and their family, and effective policing to keep us safe and to enable our women to walk the streets without fear.
Lots of other issues I know...immigration,climate change,AI,etc....but the only real argument we ever seem to have is how to fund it. As everything ever does,it comes down to money in the end.....and neither Sunak or Starmer have a ****ing clue.....either one will be a continuing, slow painful regression in almost every aspect of ordinary people's lives. We've opened the stable door, the horse has bolted and is long gone. As a once proud nation, our values, our culture, our sense of community, almost every aspect of our daily lives has been eroded,......there is no optimism, even amongst lots of the young,......we are ****ed.
If we are all together on here in 5 years time, nothing meaningful will have changed.........I invite you to bookmark it!
I'll be very, very happy for my Grandchildren if I'm wrong!

Fair enough, suppose we all have different opinions of what is or isn’t excessive

How else do politicians make 81 grand a year for ten years and come out as multimillionaires.

I read the Guardian, but they are as biased as the Telegraph in my opinion. Some of their opinion writers are petty in the extreme, and not the brightest either <laugh>

Not that anything you say is wrong. On the countryside issue I have absolutely no doubt they are going to build all over it. It is ok though, because Keir has called it grey belt so we can stop worrying <doh>

I agree with you about editorial bias, but the figures used to compile the charts are factual

100% mate. Not doubting them at all. We are in a mess and need change. As you habe probably worked out I am far from convinced this incarnation of the Labour party will be at all the change we need. Only time will tell, but I see far too much of the Blair years in this current lot, and I really think we need far better.

Quite a few of my political views are conservative with a small c, my beliefs on subjects such as Law and Order, National Security and the Armed Forces are definitely not aligned to Labour.
I don't like Starmer at all, he is too polished and his attempts to be presidential are laughable, but I vote with a social conscience and any party that has the NHS, Social Welfare and Care and Support of the Elderly as core values will get my vote every time.

As if British families haven't suffered enough with the cost of living, energy costs, NHS waiting lists etc ...

... now dozens of Tory MPs are quitting representing their constituents in opposition.

They're all 'intending to spend more time with their families' <doh>

yip , more proof that it’s all about what being an MP can do for them , not what being an MP can do for the people and the constituency

The Tories were always blaming the rotten mess they'd made on 'a weak opposition' ...

... exactly what they're creating for themselves <doh>

No further action required with regards to the house selling issue. The Tories tried to smear her and failed. Such an incredible amount of Chutzpah from the man to accuse an opposition MP of tax improprieties.
