I can’t get drunk off you drinking - absolutely true.

But I can get run over by you drink driving where as having a cigarette wouldn’t impact ability to drive in same way.
How many people end up in hospital because of drink related accidents, either because they’re drunk or someone else is drunk? How many end up with liver damage.

Don’t get me wrong Im not saying should ban drinking cos it’s bad for you as you then have to ban sugary drinks, bad food etc and suddenly you take enjoyment out of life and it just becomes a slow race to the finish line rather than enjoying the journey.

But that’s the issue you get to when say smoking should be banned. Why stop there?

    Sure that's a problem too...

but, the numbers are estimated at 250-280 per year in the UK for drunk driving related deaths. Secondhand smoke is expected to be involved in about10,000 deaths per year in the UK. That's despite far more people consuming some alcohol each year than smoking some tobacco*. So even though far more people drink than smoke- 40 times more people are killed by smokers than drunk drivers each year.

I think we both agree though that neither product should be illegal. I just don't think the regulation of one of those products needs to be linked to the other because they differ drastically in how many people can consume them safely and their impact on others. As I said, whatever someone does in their own home, as long as it doesn't impact others... I'm OK with.

With that said though, even alcohol, if you become a nuisance in public, the police will confront you. It's not like you have a right to be a public nuisance under the influence of alcohol either. It is possible to consume alcohol in public without negatively impacting others- but the moment you become a danger to others, that's illegal too.

    * Granted, that's despite some of those second hand deaths being consenting adults who went to live with a smoker... and no-one is a consenting victim in a drunk driving death

If drinking gets banned than I'd like the earth to be stopped so I can get off...

As someone in a country where the second largest party is the far right, I understand your POV but wouldn't completely agree.

I don't understand the rise of populism and the far right in so many places at the moment. Trump, Farage & Boris, Marie Le Pen, Weidel. There's no logic behind why these politicians have done so well the last decade or so. The similarities between how first two decades of this century started (economic patterns, pandemic, politics) and last century started are scary... I hope we're not 15 years out from another mirror of last century.

Luv already makes his own booze now... I can see him being a bootlegger in a post-alcoholic Britain. He'll probably start driving an orange muscle car with the Welsh flag on the top.

Cameron was at least a politician, whereas Boris was just a bumptious public schoolboy who thought politics was all a bit of a lark. It's amazing to me that Boris or Trump could get anywhere near positions of political power, but just like politicians have an entrenched and polarised mind-set, so does the voting public.
In what insane universe is it even conceivable that Trump could run for president again? Yet he will still get support because those on his side of the political divide will offer it regardless of who he is and how he acts.

Easy answers to complicated problems, media culture wars, personality cults, short attention spans and superficiality, social media, Russian influence, opportunities to feel superior and blame other people, breaking down of respect, Religion etc etc etc

    Hawks and doves.
Those that seek power are usually the last who can be trusted to wield it wisely. Those who would be more conscientious with it are seldom motivated to attain it.

How'd it get there, how is it staying up, and why is there a huge butty on the bonnet?

Ok, just seen it's a mystery.

Obviously Luv had a bit too much to drink before driving. As for the butty... Luv often has a "Guess the sandwich" thread on the Premier League board where he puts random things in a sandwich.

I love the glue on pizza thing, I read about that earlier... Google is really missing the mark with AI! <laugh>
