Wow, 16 years ago already. What a day that was. Deano’s goal has to be one of the best moments ever as a City supporter!
We were quite a long way from it but you just knew as the ball was lofted out to him that there was only one place it was going!
I have a memory of hearing some Burnsy commentary that ends with him saying "...and it's OK, you're allowed to cry." as he himself is clearly struggling to keep it together, as he is in that clip. It might be immediately after that clip in the tweet cuts off. I've always liked that bit and it annoys me that I've not been able to find it again in recent years.
Was thinking the other day I hardly recall the game, not even the goal, the tension was far too much. What I do remember though is the outpouring of emotion at the final whistle and the adrenaline for the next week or so.
Unfortunately, my Dad already wasn’t well enough to travel down with us but at least he did live long enough to finally see us make it into the top division.
Win some lose some, forty years ago today we played Bournemouth in the Associate Members Cup Final. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Flew over for it. Game was a blur. Nervous as hell throughout. I cried. Got drunk. Humble reaction to me from two Bristol mates who were at the other end of Wembley. Will never forget. What. A. Day.
