McKenna to United makes all the sense in the world to me given their recent hires.

I think the faces they have/are bringing in and Mckenna can turn them around in a couple of years.

I believe so too. He’s quality and will prove that wherever he goes imo.

And United is a far better prospect than Chelsea for me.

They gave ETH a fair crack at it in a way Chelsea did not with Poch.

Think Berrarda (sic?), Ashworth, and Wilcox will whip them right into shape.

Really hope we get some news tomorrow through a proper report or a Fabrizio tweet. We could do with it

    I’d agree.

Interesting few weeks ahead with all these clubs looking for a new manager…

There’s one less manager available for clubs <laugh> I see Claudio Ranieri has announced his retirement…

What a career he’s had. It’s still hard to believe the job he went and done at Leicester. Incredible <applause>

Hard to say no to one of football's most glamorous posts, Madrid, Milan, Munich... Plymouth.

Presume the Norwich visit was that move you mentioned. We’re almost at the end of the big 48 hours so hopefully today will give us some clarity..

In any appointment like this it works both ways. Not only does the applicant have to present himself, but so does the club. We have to convince any prospective manager of our committment to the future and the way we're going to approach it. There are some among us who think that we're the best opportunity going,a view I don't subscribe to. However,we have to learn from the mistakes of the past and correct them....ditching managers every 5 minutes has got us precisely nowhere and needs to change. I would say though, that there are a very few clubs trying to get up the league who keep their coaching staff in place for any length of time.....we aren't the only ones who can't learn. If things take a down turn,no-one is any more secure at Norwich or anywhere else in this league.

In terms of security a reasonable minimum expectation on WS would be play off place this coming season and promotion the following. If compare that to Norwich it would appear he basically needs to go in and get them promoted at first attempt. Our offer potentially has a bit more stability.

It's interesting...I've no idea what Norwich targets would be compared to ours. I remain convinced that strong, long term foundations need to be in place in order to achieve meaningful success. Promotion in itself is not enough if it can't be sustained.....there are 3 teams coming back down into our league who are testiment to that.
If our expectation of our incoming coach is play-off next season and promotion the year after,I would be delighted,as I think that gives more time to build a squad ready to compete at the top level.

Given managers don’t get time, I think Norwich are a way better bet right now. More likely to get up next season and then he’s in the shop window for a bigger move, regardless of whether Norwich have a realistic chance of establishing themselves in the top flight. I think this last season has made us way less attractive to ambitious young managers with a choice of employment, in the same way we’d be less attractive to players. Managers will rightly think that they’ll not get the chance to sort a ‘fixer upper’. We need to prove we’re not insane for a couple of years before we compete for the best managers at this level again.

Won't happen though. If we don't appoint someone who is top end for this level, an element of the fanbase will be on his case immediately, if results are average, the pressure will increase further, and the board will be forced to remove him. And on and on ad infinitum.

Wouldn't disagree with most of that. It's a good point you make about us needing to show we're not insane and we do have a sustainable plan to get us where we want to be. The problem,I suppose,is always with patience. I worry with someone like Still.....let's just say it's him......it looks like he's got the skills, but it's going to take time and by the end of October if we're in mid table, not doing great, the knives will be out. On here will be entirely painful, and the SoL will be a morgue! Does KLD have the complete faith in his judgement, stick with it,maybe add a player or two in the January window and go from there till the end of the season? Hope he does!
If we make an appointment in the next week, and it subsequently fails,it's on the Board, not the appointee. It's up to them to get it right. And,it's up to us fans,to recognise that it will take time and, during a season, every team has it's ups and downs, and,at home, our continuing vocal support is vital, especially during those down lapses in form....which will happen! Our away support is legendary....our home support needs to step up,'cos this last season,it's failing.

I think someone like Still or Maric gets more time, from the fans at least. Someone like Heckingbottom, possibly not so much.
