If other clubs will pay £1M then he is a £1M player, whether we like it or not. And NJ can’t bypass Scott, despite what certain posters claim.
I NJ will go for quality over quantity, which puts him at odds with Scott's blunderbus philosophy. 4 top signings would do me; goalie, CB, creative midfielder and striker. It's Scott's job to offload all the dead weight.
They are looking to bring in two goalkeepers. londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/charlton-athletic-interested-in-free-agent-cambridge-united-goalkeeper/
I hope he does go for quality over quantity BUT I don’t think the budget is there for us to sign 4 top quality players and even if it were, I doubt that would actually be enough to get us promoted anyway. We were so far off promotion last season, plus it looks like being a much stronger league next season. I can’t see us being in the top 6.
Ah I see. You have faith in Charlie’s three year plan Too far ahead for me to make any prediction for 25/26, but anything is possible I guess. I don’t see any evidence to suggest that that is likely though, but let’s see where we are in December next year.
I used the word "hope". Promotion this season after such a dire 2023/24 seems unlikely, but atm I'm hoping that we've reached rock bottom, and the appointment of Jones will improve our fortunes. Have you lost hope altogether?
I haven’t had any hope since SE7 Partners started running the show. In fact even before they officially took over it was clear to me that they were misleading fans and I have seen nothing since then to convince me otherwise. Their strategy cannot work while other teams are not stuck with the same strategy. The only hope therefore, is for a change to that strategy, but so far I haven’t seen that and they haven’t said that.
Copying this over from DP’s post on the other thread.. Owen Williams @OwenLTFC · Follow Can guarantee at least one of Dan Potts or Luke Berry (probably both) will join Nathan Jones at Charlton. #CAFC#ltfc The man posting this rumour is the media person for the Ladies at Luton. We are also interested in Edwards Dunfermline left back, Daniel Potts, 30 year old last played 1st team football in May 2023 so will be at least 15 months lack of match fitness. Luke Berry will be 32 before the start of the season, 17 Premier League appearances for Luton last season. Both released in May this year, so we get them both on a free transfer presumably. Both probably looking for a final contract so wages should be quite low. Fits the profile of our budget and recent signings. Josh Edwards 23 year old, regular last season for Dunfermline who finished mid table in the Scottish Championship. @The Penguin - what sort of standard is that ? We’ve apparently had a six figure bid for Edwards rejected by Dunfermline and there are several other clubs interested including Oxford who can now offer Championship football (and no doubt bigger wages). Can't see us outbidding anyone decent tbh. https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/spo...rmline-pars-reject-bid-josh-edwards-charlton/ So to answer my own question, I don’t think any of these will be at the level of May, Kermorgant or Stephens, even if we do get them. I accept they are just early rumours, but it doesn’t bode well.
It depends what we mean by hope…. Hope of a top two finish - absolutely no hope Hope of a top six finish - no hope Hope of finishing above where we did under Sandgaard - very little hope Hope of finishing at least equal to this season - very hopeful
Only the latter scenario. Any thoughts on the standard of Scottish Championship football regarding this Edwards chap - does it equate to L1 level, or below that ?
Cawley reporting that we are signing Josh Edwardes (full back) from Scotland & Luke Berry from Luton Town. The latter would be a real coup & a good signing - Captain material.
I thought nobody was signing until July. Two decent signings. Let’s see where we are at the start of the Season.
It’s nice to have quality signings to talk about, rather than reading silly threads obsessing about juvenile stats (Xg) … that only interest nerds & crashing bores. On Berry, I’m much more confident signing ex Luton players who know Nathan Jones, rather than ex Swindon players who know Ben Garner . Was it really only 2 years since that disastrous & short lived obsession whatever happened to luminaries like Garner , Egbo & Jack Payne etc.
