606 died while I was without an internet server at home, and when I came back, all I could find of the old gang was this place. It's like a haunted house. No one comes here, and no one blogs. Where have the rest of you gone to squabble?
Unlike some others we tend not to get off the bus whilst it is still moving. You normally change trains when they reach a destination and 606 hasn't quite got there yet. Spain the BBC have just cut the link from the Sports site to discourage use you can still get on http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/ArticleSearch?contenttype=-1&phrase=Charlton Athletic&phrase=Football
Saints fan in peace. Had to hunt for 606...they've changed it so you have to enter the 606 site directly. Can't get in from club page anymore. They're trying to kill it by suffocation. The danger is that fans will get dispersed to various sites. I gather there are a few starting up. Try to get your fans to come to not606 as some boards are a bit dead. See you Tuesday!
Cracking fight last night …..can’t believe anyone paid £25 for it though with so many free streams available. Good to see Fury get his arse handed to him by the Ukrainian Frank Warren was quick to say he’d like to stage a rematch in Saudi in October, with @Mr Sitter v Lyle Taylor obviously the main attraction on the card.
I think Boxing should be a well regarded combat sport which has the values of self discipline and respect for your opponent at its heart. Other long established combat sports such as the various versions of Martial Arts appear to be able to do this. It's all the stupid trash talk and hype that turns me off Boxing. All that rubbish with Tyson Fury's dad in Saudi. Boxers are not street brawlers. They should be better than trading off that thuggish image. But of course Boxing - especially heavyweight - has more scumbag leeches sucking on the money it generates than any other sport. I think at grass roots level Boxing, like Football, is a noble pursuit that gives much to local communities and helps working class youngsters to foster something positive and structured in their lives. It teaches true respect - not the exploitative 'gansta' perversion of respect. Looking at Boxing in that way, I think Usyk is a better Champion than Fury will ever be. If Boxing freed itself of some of its vile hangers-on - including pay-per-view access only to live bouts - it would regain mass respect and appeal. Unfortunately Saudi Arabia represents everything that is wrong with elite modern sport. And Heavyweight Boxing is a perfect victim for their manipulation.
You get two people getting into a fight anywhere a crowd will materialise. Human nature. Anyone brave enough to get into a ring with someone who's trying to knock their head off deserves every penny.
I have respect for boxers, but it's just not my cup of tea. I would like to smack Eddie Hearn one though.
Last week I happened to have watched the Minder episode, where Terry gets back in the ring after 7 years and discovers that unbeknown to him, his last fight was fixed. Basically both fighters end up punching the crap out of each other, while Arthur and all the other ’connections’ end up making a fortune. Sound familiar ?
