What have I missed? Woke up to an empty house, wife and kid staying at the in-laws, I was going to spend the weekend working on a stupid novel about pagan moon-worshippers in dark ages Yorkshire. Stared at the Gustav Doré triptych on my study wall while I listened to O Fortuna by Carl Orff. **** writing, I was in the headspace to sacrifice a ****ing goat. One idle click on this forum and my head's filled with images of a ginger Belgian from Waterloo. ****ers. The lot of you.
Just people who have good track records and no reason to lie saying Still is basically done. It could of course not be done, no journo has mentioned it at all, but all the noises are good.
I liked Still when we appointed Beale. I like Still now. Will be taking the news with a fistful of salt though.
I'll ask just one question mate, is it someone that's a name that's been mentioned? Because if it's not, God help the poor bloke if it's someone from left field that hasn't been mentioned, because yes, some sections of the fan base are like that. Beale was booed through the door by some because he came in at the last minute by some.
Imagine making up your own ****e just to debunk it a week later. I'd rather he just left us alone and concentrate on Newcastle like the rest of them.
I generally think the club would be better served leaking bits and pieces as progress is made to ready people. But then it would only give the detractors a voice and a reason to say, I told you so. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
I agree. But Sunderland are finally beyond plucking managers off the Merry-go-round and looking elsewhere, and I'm all for it. Truth is, other than a draw with PSG and a tactics board on YouTube, I openly admit I know f**k all about Still and if he is to be our next Manager/Coach we'll see what he brings. Like all new appointments, I think 10 games is a good yard stick to get a feeling of what we can expect and at least see what kind of team we're going to be. Also, it's best reserve excitement until its "Done". After all, Ian Wright pretty much wished Roy Keane all the best live on ITV before that went titts up.
Agreed. It's nice to appoint a manager whose mediocrity hasn't yet been proven. He might actually turn out to be very decent. Glad that it seems he will get the full preseason and transfer window to work with the squad/recruitment team to shape things. As you say, if/when it's done it will feel like an exciting one to me.
Is there any reason to presume that any managers have turned us down or is it just speculation that they have. I think the rumour mill can not even identify who we have interviewed or approached and now we are talking about 1st 2nd and 3rd choices turning us down, when the truth is we as a fan base have no idea where we are or even if we have identified the new coach. My guess is that the club will be waiting until the first team squad are back from holidays, the club will tell them first and then they will make an announcement. probably once all leagues have finished for the season.
Pure speculation but I think the club are currently weighing up their option to make sure we get the right candidate and we are still on course for plan A
We definitely don't know that we are not or do you think that KLD is happy just surviving in the Championship or would you call our model of trying to develop younger players as unambitious?
People act like being turned down is a bad thing but I wouldn't say it's any kind of embarrassment at all. Ambition should always slightly outreach your grasp. If you're not being turned down by anyone, you might not be aiming high enough to begin with. Learned that in nightclubs as a young man. Or rather I learned it several times over waking up with the sun streaming in on what I would consider a mistake lying next to me.
Just read something today that Still has strong connections within the inner sanctum of Norwich City...If its Still we are waiting for, then they just might hijack the appointment
I was talking about a hypothetical situation. Like you say, no reason to believe anyone has turned us down.
