Sunderland AFC’s retained list has been submitted, confirming the departure of several senior and academy players.

After a moving to the Stadium of Light in July 2021 and making 67 appearances in red and white, Corry Evans will leave the Club this summer.

The midfielder captained Sunderland throughout an unforgettable run at the end of the 2021-22 season, which culminated in victory at Wembley Stadium and promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.

A popular figure within the dressing room and on the terraces, Evans bids farewell having played an important role in the Club’s progression throughout the past three seasons.

Academy of Light graduates Ellis Taylor and Jack Diamond will also depart this summer, with Bradley Dack’s time on Wearside also coming to an end.

Loanees Mason Burstow and Callum Styles have returned to their parent Clubs, with SAFC retaining an option to sign Styles permanently.

Outside of the men’s senior squad, the Club has also confirmed that Ben Creamer, Callum Wilson, Connor Pye, Daniel Obolo, Harry Gardiner, Jayden Sekete, Joe Ryder, Kailem Beattie, Michael Spellman and Thomas Chiabi will depart the academy this summer.

All at Sunderland AFC would like to thank our departing players for their professionalism and commitment and we wish them well for the future.

No real surprises there, feel a little for Ellis but I will be watching to see where he ends up next.

Caden Kelly must have a +1 year option because all websites show him expiring this summer, but he is listed as retained but no contract offer. That's good news.

    Dear Sunderland Fans,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce my departure from the Club. This Club, and all of you, have been my family for the past three years, and leading this team as captain has been the greatest honour of my career. Your unwavering support, passion, and loyalty have been a constant source of inspiration to me and my teammates.

Together, we've experienced unforgettable highs. That day at Wembley is one that I will never forget. It's been a privilege to fight for this badge and to represent you on the pitch.

Though my journey with Sunderland is coming to an end, myself and my family will forever be supporting you. Thank you for everything, and I wish the Club nothing but success in the future.

    Ha'way the Lads!

    Corry

Spent a season and a half out injured and got a renewal in the middle of that at the clubs expense, he is right to be grateful, the club did the right thing in a time where few do.

Wouldn’t have got promoted without him though, he was our best midfielder when fit. Nobody can foresee an ACL injury that shouldn’t be held him against him he put his everything into every tackle he made unlike some much younger lads we’ve seen on this pitch season.

In his first 6 months I would never have thought I'd be a bit sad to see Corry Evans leave. However it's testament to his quality and professionalism that I'm gutted for him to leave. All the best Skip

Shame Evans has been released but it is the right decision in fairness. Absolute cracking player when fit though. The exact sort of CM we’ve been missing most of the season.

Evans should get himself a decent move. One of the promoted clubs from League One?
