I have said exactly this. The importance of any kind of Europe on our commercial revenues is clear. To fail in such a miserable manner, I don't know if it's acceptable. I strongly suspect he'll be given another go, purely because the current board set up is ponderous and doesn't do knee-jerk (how long to appoint a DoF now???)

To have a catalogue of injuries like this to the point where the manager is picking Trippier because he "put himself forward" is strange, though. I maintain there is zero chance we'll win anything with Howe and Tindall low-fiveing on the sidelines. The bigger question is, SHOULD we be winning something? Probably not. There's seven clearly much, much stronger teams. So it's a difficult balance - we all want to be successful, but how successful can a team with Longstaff, Almiron, Murphy, Krafth and Burn be, with a coach like Howe in charge?

 

I don’t think anyone on the forum has a problem with criticism of the Club, team etc. What some, and I include myself in this, have a problem with is constant destructive and negative criticism as opposed to constructive criticism. Combine that with a flavouring of truth distortion or ignoring of facts and I would suggest that it’s not hard to see why some react to that negative criticism.

I’m not saying that all of that is you. I do honestly think that you do make a number of valid points such as why did we buy Barnes. At the same time some of the answers to some of your points are obvious. Why do we play Almiron, Longstaff and Murphy? Because we don’t have better players yet, because of FFP, because we are still in the early stages of a ‘journey’, because of the actions of the Greedy Six with new restrictions, because Tonali was unexpectedly banned etc.

To me you seem to overly concentrate on it all being Howe’s fault. As I understand the position if anyone is at fault for the summer transfer dealings it would be The Gardener not EH. Even then we still bought some excellent players and/or prospects with possibly Barnes being the difficult to explain one.

I must be one of the odd ones out as I genuinely only ever wanted a team that tried. A team that tried to win each and every game and competition we are in. We’re doing that now. And because we are I’m happy. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to win something because I do. But it does mean that I accept it’s not going to happen overnight. I do accept it will take time. I do accept that people will make mistakes along the way as they are human and that the answer to that isn’t always that that person has to be sacked.

So for me feel free to criticise but IMO it should be constructively but if you do criticise then don’t expect everyone to agree with you. And if you have the right to criticise and voice an opinion (which for me you do) then others also have that same right to disagree with you and voice their opinion (which again should be constructive and not destructive).

Are you telling me the Owners of the Club aren’t winners. Are you telling me players like Bruno, Gordon and Isak aren’t winners? Really?

The fans are afraid to win! What on earth does that even mean? And what has it got to do with price of bread?.

Everything has an element of luck involved but over a full season you end up roughly where you deserve to be. Liverpool etc aren’t entitled to be in the top six and can have bad seasons but that doesn’t make us lucky.

Except we haven’t failed yet. There is still a decent chance that we can make Europe and we are down to the last game of the season. Yet you already have us failing miserably.

 

I'll quantify that - 14th in the PL away table, dismal showing vs Milan when UCL and even EL qualification was ours to lose, dreadful results against Forest, Luton, B'mth, Brighton, among a number of others, ludicrous injury situation, poor squad management, weird tactical obstinance.

I mean, I do go OTT, no doubt. But I'm not alone in wanting this season to end.

I too want the season to end and as I said to my kids last night.... if Newcastle can find a way to screw up, they will!

People say the Saudis are ruthless, I dont see evidence of that. All Ive seen so far is them roll over for a tummy tickle every time the PL and Sky6 introduce more and more rules to prevent us progressing. For once why dont they show their teeth, spend big and at the same time start an anti competitive lawsuit against PL.

Im tired of being the plucky challengers. Howe has till Xmas and if we aren't doing well in the league, he should be let go.

I wouldn’t.

If we don’t get into Europe, I will be disappointed and count that as falling below expectations.

The season always has ups and downs. I could counter your points with the PSG home game, the ludicrous penalty decision against PSG away but for which we would have progressed etc.

We still have a chance of getting into Europe and it’s in our hands and there’s only one game left. I still believe we will do it. Time will tell.

 

What do we really think about ECL qualification? I know Chaos likes it because he thinks we can win it, fair enough. Clearly Euro competition is good for commercial revenue. But if we didn't then we have an extra 15% to spend on the squad plus aren't flying to Moldova on a Thursday night.

Difficult to call. I'd suggest not being in it at all is probably the better outcome.

 

If West Ham can win it then we can. I wanna be in it.
