You can take it there if you want, or just consider it from the perspective of saying something to someone's face and seeing how upsetting it can be for that person rather than behind a screen. But after your comment the other day and doubling down on it to someone who was clearly unhappy about it, I don't think you seem particularly capable of empathy.
If you change 'English' to just about any other group, it would be at least equally valid, and more so in several cases, but you would have been castigating the author as racist. The Scots and Welsh are pretty proud and protective about their role in the Empire for a kick off. It's a funny old world.
