I'd say it's fine to object to a comment or the tone of a comment. It's just not the right place to post a counter argument that many will see as equally offensive. All of our views will be seen as outdated at some point in time.
There’s a difference between a comment about your own race, that has been exaggerated for effect, and people posting genuinely derogative and offensive statements about others. If any white people are genuinely offended at an OTT statement, by a white person, about how white people have done a lot of bad things, then they really need to adjust what makes them feel offended. They should probably avoid most museums in the meantime, just to be on the safe side. I will admit that I do often think about the things my generation says that will be called out by generations of the future. I’d like to think that I’ll be open-minded enough to accept that I was wrong, listen, and learn instead of burying my head in my own ignorance. Then again, that’s probably what every generation before me thought as well.
You’ve missed my point - I clarified that I didn’t think you actually believed yourself to be above anyone else and also expressed how pedantic the ‘sub’ argument is to highlight how pedantic I thought your logic was. I’ve not said you’ve taken sides because I don’t think you have, but give bigots an argument to hide behind and they’ll cling to it, despite it never actually factoring into their thinking. Bored now, don’t think you’re the problem, just disagreed with your argument
Got ejected at Newport County by plod, I was just stood there doing nothing and the **** just ejected me. I paid to get in again and the **** ejected me again with the immortal words, 'if you go in again I'll kick your ****ing head in'. We'll keep a welcome in the hillside, typical of the time though and I have little doubt that Leeds fan yesterday, back in the day, would have been told 'it's your own fault for coming'. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
So who won the argument then? Nobody? Ok, so lessons learned. Post with kindness in mind, and you will save everyone on the forum from trawling through about 8 pages of bile to realise that we have yet to get a new manager.
It's amazing catching up on this thread which posters fall on which side of this discussion. And how unsurprised I am.
