Buck stops with one man. Dreyfus. He appoints thoise below him to manage and run the club. He is the one who chooses the personnel at the management level, as others have stated over the past twelve or so months, he rubber stamps appointments. At a guess, I'd say he was the man in charge.
Would you say he was right in appointing Johnson, who got us top two, Neil who got us promoted and Mowbray who almost got us in the PL? I'd imagine your response will start with 'Yes but .... '
100%, the recruitment needs to be tailored for that formation That formation you must have a good CDM, or at least a CM with that defensive awareness - your CMs must be able to cover lots of ground I think the press works really well in a 343 type formation, that's why its popular in German football - can be really aggressive with it The issue our fans will see is Dodds played that formation and used it for defensive reasons, 5-4-1 (which lets be honest was more of a 5-5-0)
Nixon the fountain of knowledge, KS said ages ago that a new coach would be allowed to bring a assistant
Johnson not really top 2 - had played about 3 games more than a few teams below top 2, had just been handed the worst defeat in safcs history 0-6 at Bolton, with a team looking shot to bits. Yes Neil and Mowbray were very good appointments at the right time but they haven't got virtually anything right for the last 5 months.
Those were steadily improving appointments. Speakman has also been a good appointment by any sensible analysis. Sacking Mowbray was defendable too albeit I would argue the wrong time to do so. His replacement and the decision to go with Dodds for rest of season have been terrible decisions though. On the whole, still in credit for me but really need the head coach appointment to be a good one. The replacement DoF if there is one also needs to be good. Off the field, Mags debacle aside, things seem to be improving rapidly albeit a few niggles around supporters club shop etc. end of last season I’d have scored them a 7.5/10 ( point deduction for lack of centre forward). This season a slightly generous but not disastrous 6/10.
Slightly misleading when there's teams in good form a point or 2 behind with 2 or 3 games in hand is my point.
Lets just say he had us fighting for the play-offs if you want to split hairs ... ... we were seven points from seventh place when Johnson was sacked.
Same. He has off games defensively but don’t they all. His 10m+ defensive partner also does (eg the mags game). If you look at his positives 09 must be one of if not the best distributors of the ball in the league. Would love to see the stats for this @Scout73 @SourPatch2 ? And if they prove me wrong I was right anyway.
My point is that KLD has appointed people who've help us progress and turned a rotten squad into one with more potential.
Yes the Neil appointment was the right one...But his contract would suggest it was a half hearted appointment. A one year roll over contract left us wide open to what actually happened with the Stoke thing
Didn't it come out that the rolling contract was his idea? And that we offered him a significant contract before he left?
Or perhaps it could suggest he thought he was better than us, wasn't sure he'd succeed and wanted a get out clause ... ... depends what you choose to believe I suppose.
Assuming this was the case then our recruitment looked weak and desperate...as you say, depends on which version to chose to believe
He has and has also made a monumental mistake in Beale and then writing off a third of the season with Dodds and Proctor but that's old ground now. Let's see who they come up with - I've a nagging fear that Speakman would love to appoint Dodds but his results have been so bad KLD won't sanction it. They are still a hindrance to getting a decent manager in if they are insisted on being part of the coaching team.
