Which is why I think he was reticent to let the players off the leash more. Personally, I think he did help to improve a number of our players whilst he was here but I think he still needed a technically better squad overall to get the best out of the system that he wanted. Whether he might have got closer to that this summer we’ll never know but I wish him the best wherever he goes (as long as it’s not TWS). As for the new man, if it does turn out to be Walter, I’m firmly in the initially underwhelmed camp (despite being half German myself) but I will give him the benefit of the doubt until such time as results/performances dictate otherwise. UTT
Bit irrelevant now but I just don't buy this "he improved X players" . Some of course developed while he was here. They would have likely improved, maybe even more so, under another coach. Some, particularly the young loaned, got their taste / experience of this level elsewhere the previous season or two, and also came to us a year older, so of course they improved and we reaped some of the benefits of their natural development. There are several players where you can easily argue haven't development under him - if you give him unquestioned praise for those that have developed you surely have to question why he didn't develop others. Personally I don't think he did anything to develop our attacking players (and that absolutely includes Delap who cut his teeth elsewhere and we took the benefit. Philogene as a prime example has gone backwards (too often literally!). Ty hat doesn't mean he didn't help Greaves cut out the daft tugging and stuff and similar with others
It’ll be interesting to see how Philogene plays under a more aggressive-minded manager, as I feel it’s his own indecision that slows him down and leads to the sideways passing. When he isn’t playing well he seems to stop and pause instead of going with his gut; other times he doesn’t get his head up and see the players making runs; then he seems to go through phases in which he seems hesitant to use both feet. I don’t think this was caused by Rosie, but it didn’t seem like he was figuring out what he needed either, so maybe someone else will help him iron out those frustrations.
what was the idea of playing without strikers and passing among defenders at the back rather than moving forward when we got to 70 minutes we'd sub on attackers, send defenders to play as strikers and play in a panic other teams played with a more structured approach thoughout games
He's a great bloke actually. We met very randomly I had no idea he was on the radio over there. We have loads of shared experiences of football like watching England V Germany in 1990, he peed himself watching that match because of the tension. He wants to come watch City one day and am sure he's mentioned us a lot over there.
It just gets more nonsensical the more you think about it. He's obviously done a good job on some of the fan base though with his free trips to Turkey and what not. I was sat down Prinny Av having a beer and saw his low flying jet on Boxing Day too so he's obviously quite the thrill seeking character. When it becomes clear that we aren't going to go up with his managerial beliefs that's when the troubles will really start. I'm actually looking forward to seeing this German guy if he comes being a fan of German culture and so on.
Your right, it's all subjective at the end of the day. He's seen videos of us playing but he's not sat and watched a match. I've sat through the home matches this season and for me we've missed Delap a lot and lacked a striker, and also it's been pretty shocking what's happened to Connolly. Sharp hasnt worked out so maybe that's the managers fault. Still, if the sacking was going to be justified I think Rosenior needed until the end of next season, the timing is wrong and at the moment the new manager that's lined up looks like a disaster that's waiting to happen.
I’m certainly looking forward to a culture of fans all turning up at the ground with full cases of beer and caning it in the car park before going in and buying 1 litre steins of strong lager to take to our seats. Good times are coming
https://x.com/kurtjohansson_/status/1789358910115074312 good article on Walter. He isn’t as useless as all that
I too often wondered! I think it was called "trusting the process", but I might be wrong as I'm "uneducated". Anyway, time to move on perhaps
But will be Walter be able to cope with the raucous, febrile atmosphere of fortress MKM?Their fans pre match appear a bit subdued compared to ours as they wait to be entertained before becoming vocal. Would love to see Humberside Plod’s reaction to a similar fans march to the ground. Some on HCST would have a fit as well.
https://x.com/kurtjohansson_/status/1789358910115074312?s=46 Great Twitter thread showing his coaching credentials for those thinking he’s not cut for the job based on no evidence at all.
Also people keep questioning him not getting them out the division, when he actually got them in their play offs equivalent in both his full seasons!
