I don’t think anyone has said some of the football hasn’t been fantastic and some great well worked goals But a lot on here have commented how boring and dire it’s been as well and they have been dismissed as know nowts and don’t understand modern football etc which is what tan and acun have now said I’ve always liked the danny blanchflower mantra tbh
I assume you mean this one, which is a great quote. “The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.” As usual some people take very polarised views though. I’ve enjoyed the football we’ve played at home more this season than for a long time, even though I’ve often found results frustrating. It’s just irrelevant. My opinion is different to Acun’s, and some others on here. The only thing I have an issue with is the notion that ‘boring’ is an easy measurable thing and it is a fact that the football has been boring. No one of us can say whether it is or isn’t, because unlike results it’s not easily measured. I’m happy that I’ve got the owner’s go ahead to stand on my seat though! It’s going to be so exciting isn’t it…(or rather some people might find it exciting…and some might not…that’s just an opinion too…so no doubt we’ll all continue to argue into next season too, which is probably good for the board traffic) I’ll support any City Manager or Player in the ground. I won’t boo, or be shouting my displeasure in the ground. I might moan on here occasionally, but very rarely. I think our home support would do well to all do the same.
I wonder if the ground had been roaring every game with an energetic atmosphere whether this decision would still have been made. I think possibly not. Bottom line I think that is what Acun really wants and no matter how much you enjoy the football on display that slow and methodical style doesn’t really give you so much to get going and shout about.
IF we have had 50 applications and IF Wally is deemed the best of the bunch, I can only but wonder who the other 49 might be! Perhaps they include the following (In no particular order of course!) 1. Jimmy Dean 2. Terry Dolan 3. Mike Smith 4. Jan Molby 5. Shota 6. Slutsky 7. Peter Swann (with Burnsy as his assistant) 8. The Cowleys 9. Rooney 10. Fat Frank 11. Dennis Wise 12. Dave Bassett 13. Mike Bassett 14. Erik Ten Hag 15. Steve Evans 16. Phil Neville 17. Paul Hurst 18. Iain Dowie 19. Mike Phelan 20. David Artell 21. Billy Davies 22. Matt Taylor 23. Xisco Munoz 24. Darren Moore There - that's half of them identified - I'll let you ladies and gents add the other half
Although I remember a game against Rotherham where we went 3-0 up early and the ground went dead because the game was over so quickly.
I think you are probably right he said this in his interview with talksport: “I want to jump on my seat watching the team. I want the crowd to get more and more excited." Its a sentiment he's expressed before too. However, if he's hoping for a Fenerbahçe style cauldron of passion he's going to have his work cut out. FWIW I do think the atmosphere at the ground was much better at the games I attended (and where I was stood). I do think being allowed to stand is a big part of this.
I know I sound pessimistic but I’m looking forward to seeing Walt’s sexy football on a Tuesday night in the middle of January in Stoke. When it’s just above zero, blowing a hoolie and the rain’s like stair rods. Disco football, sexy football ya!!
Some people keep posting that the fans that found it boring have been dismissed for not knowing or understanding anything about the modern game, but I can’t find any threads on here where that has actually happened.
I only managed a handful last season, away stands were obviously bouncing as they always are, but the 3 home games I got to were pretty flat. Blackburn was ok, Stoke was atrocious, I can’t even remember now what the third home game was earlier in the season.
Or maybe he’s actually more like the belligerent posters on here, and his ownership will descend into responding with ‘****’ any time someone tries to engage with him or ask him a question?
Just musing that a week's a long time in football... This time last week I was arranging to view the last League game of the season... We had an excellent chance of beating Plymouth... We had a fair chance of the playoffs... We had a fighting chance of the Premier League... We had a manager... C'est la vie.
