Best distribution season of his career data wise and high sweeping numbers. Can't say say I watch much of Brugge mind An older keeper was my preference though if Patto leaves, east way to add experience and lets us develop Young for 2 years. Bring him in if he's still up to the level, don't do it for sentimental purposes.
I think mignolet would be a very good replacement for patto - had a pretty good season in belgium Im the same as you, id be wanting an experienced GK to come in with the hope that Young kicks on and is good to start the season after Mignolet has def been offered to the club however, he would have been offered to loads of teams so not sure its that likely
Mignolets experience would be incredible for our squad. We've lacked that on the pitch this season, losing Evans to injury, then Gooch, Batth and Pritchard all leaving. If there are more frees of that ilk itd be canny, ideally a holding mid.
An experienced keeper would be good but 36 is on the outside edge of deteriorating rapidly. Foster looked good for Wrexham getting promoted to league one but just a few weeks later had gone completely to ****. As competition for Patto, great. As first choice whilst Young develops a bit more and we sell Patto not so great.
Yeah I agree I think 36 is a bit old. Early thirties with plenty of experience giving us five years or so of quality backup and helping to mentor Young would be better.
Mignolet makes a lot of sense as a bridge to Young if Patterson is leaving. Would be surprised if we can compete with Club Brugge/Celtic's wages though.
He'll not be coming in as backup mate. Young will be number one in a few years so Mignolet will be a great help for him fulfill his undoubted potential
Apparently Brighton are willing to let Marc Leonard go for a smallish fee (under €500k). He wouldn’t be my first choice but he could be a good, cheaper CDM option. He was very good on loan in League 1 last season and, although young, he’s not an inexperienced kid.
Find this a really interesting way of looking at things. He's played 22 league games and 24 career games more than Jobe Bellingham. But Bellingham has played all 69 of his league games in the championship, while Leonard has played half of his in league one and the other half in league two. I'd argue Bellingham is therefore the more experienced of the pair, at least in terms of the experience we need. And Bellingham is criticised for being too inexperienced. Not having a go, just find the whole question of experience to be quite a difficult one to grasp. So much of this sort of thing is just about perception.
All fair points. Experience is a hard once to balance. I think someone like Leonard is expended enough to step in contribute to the first team immediately. I wouldn’t expect him to be a leader though. We need a mix of the two this summer. Ideally I’d want someone more experienced as a regular started at CDM. I would however have someone like Leonard ahead of Styles, Matete, Embleton etc as he’d offer more natural balance and flexibility in our midfield options.
Take the point, but we should beware a little of looking for experience ahead of talent. Talent outweighs experience everytime imo....I would put Rigg into that bracket. The key for our new Coach is to develop the talent with the appropriate mental approach. If he gets it right, the talent will develop its' own experience. It's why I believe Tony did better with these players than the pure and alternative coaching, varied match by match, they got from Dodds,Beale and Dodds again. He was able to understand how the players think and how to draw the best from them.....unless you're Man C and can attract the already intelligent end product, and drop a Foden somewhere into it.....it isn't all about tactics and formations. It's one of the reservations I have about appointing Still. Can he get into these talented players thought processes, because that's the key to our success.
No idea if either source is any good but two links this morning. Phillips had 11 goals 6 assists from midfield this season for Barnsley. Poveda is another 10/winger type, decent though.
Haven't paid too much attention to Poveda but he seems the type that haven't been able to properly settle into a starting 11 anywhere. Clearly talented though and was very highly rated at youth level
