I weirdly hope he had a niggle because formation and tactics aside I never saw anything to get excited about. TWT
Nobody did but then, were we playing to his strengths? I think he likes to attack like Brady or Odubajo but never really had the opportunity to do that. He had nobody in the box to aim at either, he was just faced with arriving onto a ball and trying to slam a low pass through a box already packed out with 10 defenders with only one or two attackers to pick out. I’ve no doubt he’s capable of much more than we’ve seen from him.
that assumes the match wouldn't have changed after the penalty was scored - it's not inconceivable that the opposition would have pressed forward to compensate
He seems to love it at Exeter from what I've read. Hopefully he gets the permanent move that he wants.
I really like Delap, think he's a great prospect, but I can't see anyone paying 10m for him. I don't think that any Premier League team would want him or any teams coming down with a record of just 12 goals across 2 seasons in the Championship. In a strange way that 2-3 month absence due to injury has definitely helped our cause, with a more consistent run he may have doubled his goal tally and really put himself on other teams' radar. If we could pick him up for a chunk less that that with add ons for promotions, sell on clause he could be a great bit of business.
This is one of my problems with all this upheaval. We've been through it all enough times with Sinik, and others too, including Oscar to a lesser extent. I was happy to accept being told by a manager, an expert in what he was talking about, that we had a way of playing and some players fit into it less than others. The Football Manager style signings that were made prior to Liam got short shrift. I really can't be arsed with this idea of going back and giving them all a fresh start. We seemed to be getting close to having a purpose built squad of players that the manager actually wanted, to play the football he envisaged. Whatever this new manager's style of play is will be irrelevant if he's forced to mess about with players he's inherited because they're popular in Turkey.
potentially….all depends on who Acun brings in as manager & what players we sign. ATM we just don’t know, it could be a move forwards. TWT as tickles said
It’ll be the end of next season that we know. Autos is the least we should be expecting if improvement is on it’s way.
maybe….maybe Acun would settle for 7th again if the footy was more entertaining but in my opinion, almost zero chance of the autos
I keep reading comments that the new manager will be under pressure from the first game, he must get us in the play offs and finish higher than Liam otherwise he'll be gone.. Says who? Everything we know about Liams sacking is not so much about his league position but more to do with his over cautious, defensive style of football. Acun's words not mine. I honestly believe if Liam played a more entertaining, attacking brand of football he'd still have his job, even if he finished 8th or 9th as that would have been an improvement over the previous season and inline with Acuns 5 year plan.
The same problem still applies though. How patient will we be when there's a game where the opposition defend successfully and we're shut out? A game like that is never going to be entertaining or look like we're playing great football. So presumably we'll be turning on him whenever that happens, and Acun will lose patience if it happens too much. Realistically, if we're finishing lower than this season then it's probably going to happen more often than this season.
Those games are going to happen to everyone an handful of times over the course of a season. Be honest. We had about 20 of them.
It's just a bit daft. Points on the board is what you need and if I'm honest I'm not too bothered about a style of football. I'd rather play unattractive football and go up than play exciting football and be mid table.
