People make it sound like we scored 20 goals for the season and finished 19th. 68 was one of our highest goal tallies in the Championship.

That was a few years ago now and it's not unusual for 1) certain moves not to work out for a player and 2) players in certain positions to improve as they mature.

That, or he's found his level.

I didn't read it as that at all. He said in the interview that the coach is not responsible for recruitment - the coach tells the boss what kind of player he wants and Tan and the scouting team go out and get them. Very much like most PL clubs these days. Pandur was obviously one of those players (good with his feet and, incidentally, much cheaper than his actual worth) but LR didn't play him, in fact didn't even have him on the bench in the end. I can see how that, and other issues, may have rubbed Acun up the wrong way but is miles off him wanting to pick the team.

I really like Rosenior and thought the progress under him was good. However, looking to the future, the bigger concern for me is that Acun has sort of backed himself into a corner with the next manager, and it could potentially become a cycle.

If the football is really exciting but we finish 7th again, does Acun sack the manager for missing out on the play-offs? It feels like he has to really, with all the talk of progress as well as excitement. If he doesn't, it looks like a strange decision, as he's inadvertently set a really low bar for what constitutes failure.

The other scenario is that he sticks with a manager if we don't go up, accepting that getting rid of someone who just missed out is, in hindsight, a bit mad, and goes again. But after his Humberside interview, he clearly isn't that kind of person.

Stoke weren't big fans of Joselu either and look at him now, 17 for Real Madrid and 2 in a semi final of the champions league at the age of 34!

Why? Acun's come out and said LR wasn't sacked because of the final league position, so why would he sack the new guy for that reason?

He said that, but also said that promotion to the Premier League only gets someone an extra year. Do you really think that if the football is really fun, but we only finish 12th, he sticks with the manager? He wants success and excitement, not one or the other.

Do you think if Acun had not thrown all these attacking players at LR in jan we would have done better after on the 1/1/2024 we was in 7th on 39 points and was doing reasonably well if he had not thrown all the new players into the mix would LR have been able to achieve a top 6 if things had just remained the same.

Time will tell - my expectations for the next season under Rosenior were play offs at least.

My expectation is that we build on the progress so far, if we go backwards but the games are a touch more exciting I won’t be that impressed.

    It’s a gamble either way.

He scored 4 goals in two years at stoke. Purely saying what someone did years ago has no bearing on how they do for future clubs all the time. Wasn't a serious comparison anyway, just you can pick stats like that to make any point you like.

edit - and 6 in two years for Newcastle.

Mark Robins is in the frame now, Walter remains the favourite.

    My suspicion is - no.

Either way I think Delap’s injury was the single biggest factor In not getting in the play offs.

I also think Jaden’s injury and loss of form was a problem.

I think the season probably ends the same either way. Us in the 7th-10th bracket
