They're trying to use an exact science for something inexact. 'Contact' has become a meaningless word, it doesn't always mean it was worth a penalty when it was deliberately engineered by an attacker. An experienced referee would suss that ... ... video slowed down to forensic speed destroys all common sense.
I don’t for a second see that as a top 6 squad mind. There’s easily 6 better sides. Other better sides missed out, Coventry being main example.
It's ruining the game. In my view, we need to revert to the Ref being in charge and the only time Var should be used is if he is not sure about a decision and calls for it to look at a specific moment or incident about which he's not clear, and Var looks at it and that alone. Everyone who loves the game knows that Refs make mistakes,it's always been part and parcel, and people need to accept it,regardless of their greed or their egos. If a Ref uses Var too often during a match,he needs to be looked at as not being able to do his job to a high enough standard.
I definitely think they use it wrong. It should be more like Rugby Union, where the ref can ask the TMO for help. VAR shouldn't be interrupting the ref. He's not a (video) Assistant the way its used now, he's a video interference.
At times I like VAR but it should only be used for glaring mistakes and not to micro analyse every decision. When it was first used at a world cup and the referees starting punishing all the holding and antics at corners the players stopped doing it and the games opened up, it was one of the best world cups I can remember, then they stopped using it for that?? major mistakes, bad fouls and off the ball incidents is all it should be used for. use it simply and accept the rest of the game.
Completely agree. I also have a fundamental problem with the way they communicate to each other (the ref, linesman, 4th official, TMO etc). When they release the audio, its utter chaos. I know as somebody who used to be a ref, that I'd absolutely hate that. In rugby they only talk when they have to talk. The rest of the time they let the ref get on with the game. In football its a free for all. Every tackle they shout at each other. Its mental. Its no wonder so many mistakes are made.
I think that there is a lot that football can learn from Rugby, this being one of the most obvious things. There are, obviously, fundamental differences between the games, and the way they are organised, that means that some things won't translate but the basic organisation of using video refereeing will.
I expected nothing less from you... You are a typical antipodean agrumentitive click-bait seeking merchant. We, in the UK, act a tad different... Toodle Pip....Dundee.
Players are punished for the slightest thing then ... ... not punished for blatantly cheating. It sickens me when pundits praise attackers for leaving a leg dangling and 'giving the ref a decision to male ... no, its cheating ffs.
Need retrospective bookings for diving, but then that's VAR? VAR was probably jumped on by our FA as our refs are crap. Watching the champions league semis the refs were tremendous... unfortunately not enough of them to go around?
You don't know what click-bait is, do you? If you did, you definitely wouldn't have used it there. You seem to use a lot of odd phrases without really having much grasp of what they mean. I'm English born and bred, so your antipodean nonsense, your nationalist **** doesn't really wash either. I wouldn't make out there is some sort of unified way of behaving decently in the UK when I'm pretty sure most of your posts boil down to Alex Scott should be fired because the mixed race lesbians are raking over Britain. Your mate the lawyer told you and she's a person of colour, so it has to be right. ****ing idiot.
VAR is the worst thing to ever happen to football. Its absolutely awful in Scotland. Killing the game. I'm so glad we don't have it in championship
It’s not used correctly They back track and back track to find an infringement and then the can’t make a decision To see if it was in that same movement Var is only to be used for clear and obvious mistake If it no clear and obvious why track back The whole crowd and players know when it’s clear and obvious
I agree it should be clear and obvious mistakes only. Get rid of the two lines that take an eternity. I agree that the linesman should let play go on and flag for offside when the play is over. But give VAR a limited time to have a quick look. If it’s too close to call go with the linesman’s decision. Or let the crowd decide. They always know better.
Some pen-pushing bureaucrat at FIFA trying to justify their existence. Why can't they just leave the game alone. It's done pretty well for 140 years or so.
