We always seem to finish a season on a high leading to optimism for the following season only for it to evaporate by October, or in the case of the season just gone, on the opening day. Hopefully next season will be different!
If we seriously want to challenge for promotion next season JCS is a key player. If a Premier League club come in fair enough they can pay Premier League price with a sell-on as well. £10 million minimum. You don't sell to your rivals, Stoke are a joke...
I would be delighted if Cifuentes signed a contract extension, even if I still can't quite yet fully join in the Marti love-in (some truly dire performances need to fade from the memory before I could do that). He's plainly done an excellent job in keeping us in the division and I think what I find most exciting for next season is the collective spirit that there seems to be in the squad now, for which he deserves credit - probably along with some of the senior players (I imagine Cook would be very influential here). He and his coaches have made us far better defensively and we now score from corners whilst not constantly conceding from them, plus the Jimmy Dunne to right back move has proved a masterstroke. All this without a natural goal scorer at centre-forward, so overall it's an 8 out of 10 from me.
If he continues the current improvements I doubt we will have Cifuentes for more than another 18 months at most, unless he truly works a miracle and gets us promoted. New contract might help us avoid the massive disruption of an early departure and help us get some cash when he does go….. ……he gets a 9/10 from me, even as someone who thinks the role of coaches is generally overrated. I’ve enjoyed going to see the Rs play again, in truth for the first time for a very long time.
People said similar things the summer we didn't sell Dykes, Willock, Dickie and Chair. Wish we'd sold 3 of those then!
Made me laugh https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/h...dnesday-qpr-nottingham-forest-manager-search/ Hull fancy a Marti Party
There are some statements appearing today allegedly from Marti about Dixon Bonner and Walsh. I expect both to sign new contracts. Whether we trust Walsh as our No1 and Saloman as our no2 I doubt though.
Anyone what is the situation with Marti’s contract? It would be good to know he’s on board for next season.
A promotion push? Is that what people are thinking for next season? We did finish 18th. It might not be beyond the realms of possibility but setting expectations too high rarely ends well. We've missed the window to sell our assets so many times over recent years I'm not sure we can be picky if the right offer comes in. I'm hoping JCS injury record will be enough to put off any suitors.
Our form from 19 games mid January had us in 4th place to the end of the season. It's not over-optimistic to think with a proper striker and one or two additions we'd have a good chance of making the play-offs. Our biggest fear is Marti being targeted by bigger clubs, he's apparently on Hull's shortlist. It's nice to be thinking positively after the last 18 months...
I felt that this bit of click bait, perhaps with a grain of truth in it, was inevitable. Hope he know what sort of place Hull is!
Given what we've seen of Marti, I'm sure promotion is very much on his radar whether 24/25 or the next season.
Having been safe before the final week, it's easy to feel like we finished mid-table. As it turned out though, if we'd lost our last two games (which many thought probable), rather than winning them, we'd have been relegated.
And if we'd won six more we'd be in the play-offs....that Marti fella ain't all he's cracked up to be
