If Omur had been fit and we’d started with him instead of Delap I think we’d have seen a different City performance yesterday. Slater would have benefited from the help down the right and Tufan might have got more of the service he needed. Still, there we go. Re bedrock-gate, I think we do have solid bedrock for next season. We have an owner and a management team which seems to working well and loved by all, club infrastructure seems to be improving all the time, we look to be financially sustainable, gates have been consistently up and we have a group of players on the books we can build on. That to me is bedrock.
You’re often taking the piss, but not sure whether you are here. Personally, I’ve always thought McCann was v unfortunate to be axed in favour of Averladze (especially after that fab win away at Bournemouth and Longman’s glorious winner), and this Donny run has been stupendous, so I hope they go all the way. But then I always liked Ryan Longman too and would love to see him back. Still our player for now.
I don’t think I’ve ever said that, I’ve certainly said posting on threads isn’t mandatory, when someone’s posted something like ‘golf’s ****’ in the golf thread.
My point is it could be anyone. I'd add 23 more including ourselves. You just never know who's going to sign who, how it'll click and what sort of run teams are going to go on.
Not throwing insults - this isn’t realism it’s pessimism. We all know there’s a lot of work to do - but you’re acting like no work will be done between now and the end of the transfer window. We might never see the loanee players again but equally that means we have 5 spots open to find new players to match them. It’s a big job but made easier by the fact our club and coach has a reputation for improving players and integrating them into a possession based style many of the top clubs are using. Jaden and Greaves will probably go - but if they don’t - they are still here and don’t need replacing. If they both go we’ve probably got more money than we’ve had in years to invest in the squad. Some of our squad aren’t going to be good enough for an automatics push - but they become our new depth (which is now at a higher level than we had last season). Hopefully the players we do sign are at a higher first team quality level. It feels like you are acting like we are starting the season with the current squad minus the loanees and Jaden and Greaves. That’s not going to happen. This might be optimistic and the transfer window doesn’t pan out like I hope, but equally there’s no sign that we are going to not replace our top players. We’ve also got some expensive players who we are able to see the back of this summer due to their contracts running out. That’s a good thing. We don’t know what’s going to happen - so we can only judge based on our activity this summer. The only FACT is - we are in a better place than we’ve been since about 2015.
In my opinion and was in yours. I’m no more right or wrong than you…so we’ll call it a draw. I know you’ll struggle with that
Yes, you don't tend to throw insults. Acknowledged. A comment not aimed at you. Maybe read my post again. Where am I "... acting like no work will be done between now and the end of the transfer window" or that I'm "....acting like we are starting the season with the current squad minus the loanees and Jaden and Greaves". ?!?! Of course work (tonnes of it!!) will be done. Of course the squad won't be anything like now! My whole point is that it's an absolutely massive rebuild needed if we are to go for promotion, and that, at least in terms of players (which is what wins you games) we really don't have this supposed "great foundation / bedrock". For clarity, here's what I said .... "it's an absolutely massive rebuild ... again. It's like 15 players to bring in, of which something like 10 (maybe more) need to be at the level of those first 4. We haven't got any strikers, none!! https://www.wearehullcity.co.uk/teams . This will be Roseniors FOURTH transfer window, yet he'll be starting from a base that is absolutely miles off. I'm not putting all the blame at his door either.
We'll have to agree to disagree - because Jaden/Delap/Carvalho/Omur/Morton/Giles/Connolly/Ohio/Alsopp/Sharp/Zaroury/Lokilo/Pandur were all brought in this season (for good or for bad). We can do that again (and are fishing in a larger pool because we have more money). Of the rest of the first teamers - Seri/Coyle/Jones/Greaves/Slater/Tufan/Jacob/Ingram/McLoughlin/Docherty/Traore/Christie - the majority of them Rosenior has made better. Of this list - Greaves will be sold for a LOT of money - and three (Christie/Traore/Docherty) that he hasn't made better will depart this summer and we get their wages off our books. Ingram and McLoughlin perhaps the outlier. Ingram probably will be sold and McLoughlin I think most have no problem with him staying or leaving. Of course its a big turn around - but arguably the turnaround is as big as last summer - but we have A) more money B) a better reputation and C) some more experienced heads used to the top end of the Championship.
To add as well - of the 3 clubs that don't go up in the play offs - and the teams that were chasing them - how many will have a quiet summer because they think their squads are sorted? Genuine question - because I don't know. I would imagine most have a lot to do.
Yep, agree, although the big IF is if we are able to retain Tufan, one of my faves, he has been recently making hints about wanting another crack at the Prem, would he attract any interest? Hopefully, Omur, Acun & Tan can be persuasive. Noticeable from our recent better performances the on pitch connection, link up play with Omur was mouth watering, Ozan is like a new player from that at start of season, if we can retain both, we should be rebuilding a team around this pairing. That connection sadly missing yesterday.
A big turnaround is rarely a good thing and having had one last year doesn't legitimise it this year. I'm sure our recruitment will be decent but our starting point is far from ideal when you are trying to build continuity, bed players in and develop a style.
I find it remarkable that Ipswich have kept largely the same spine of their team from League 1 and won automatic promotion. Hladký in goal, Edmundson, Woolfenden, Burgess been solid at centre-half, Davis at left-back, Morsy and Luongo as the ‘double pivot’, Burns, Chaplin and Broadhead been crucial for them in the forward line. All inherited from their League 1 squad. The players they signed this year like Hutchinson, Hirst, Taylor, Williams and Tuanzebe etc. are all good additions to flesh out the squad but the foundations from League 1 was the key to their success. I’m not ****ting on Rosenior, but that’s what I would consider a ‘bedrock’. We have too many key players in key positions to replace. Losing our best centre-half and having to replace him, needing to address the imbalance in midfield, weaknesses in full-backs on both sides and having to sign whole new strikers. I don’t think having to rebuild 5-6 key positions in your starting XI every summer is good or sustainable.
Lack of experience all season, probably too many v young loan players. = too many performances like Stoke at home. Notable that once again most of the team played below their own standards yesterday, and yet for most of them this season is the best/most successful season they have had in their careers, but they still could not finish the job. Ok in the end it did not matter, but we need to add some experience IMO.
