A disappointing end to the year, but a much better finish than I expected in August. PS. Next season will also be the first time in over two decades that we have spent four successive seasons in the same division
Without the loanee's in our squad there is a lot of work to be done in the summer. Especially if/when greaves and philogene leave. Will be a complete rebuild. Reaching the top six will be a big ask
Think there is a Euro Footie competition isn't there? Or is it a secret kept by your other half? shhhh
Went to look at how other teams that finished 7th went on to do in their next season. Wish I hadn't now... League position the season after finishing 7th: 23-24 Blackburn 19th 22-23 Boro 4th 21-22 Reading 21st 20-21 Forest 17th 19-20 Boro 17th 18-19 Preston 14th 17-18 Leeds 13th 16-17 Ipswich 16th
Wouldn't be surprised if we struggle next season, or on the other side of the coin piss the league by chrimbo..
I do have a bit of a worry we could struggle next season The championship doesnt give you any room to standstill It eats and chews you.up And our rebuild is ****ing huge....
Sunderland finished play-offs last year and finished 16th this year. It’s really difficult to maintain momentum after narrowly missing out on promotion. Huddersfield were in the play-off final against Forest not too long ago as well. With such a big turnover of players in the summer, we need to get it spot on. Some posters have said we have a much better chance next season but it’s also possible for us to be flirting with the bottom three by Christmas next season if previous patterns are anything to go by. By the way, Brum were in and around the play-offs at the start of this season under Eustace. Why they decided to sack him for Rooney, I’ll never know. Shocking decision by their owners and fans should rightly be blaming them for relegation this year.
Is it really 1995 when we last won away on the last game of the season? (When Fettis scored at Blackpool) Surely not?
Just seen a stat that we finished with 12 more points than last season…..with the squad we had, is that good enough ?
I’m not pessimistic. We could have a great summer window, make some astute signings and start firing on all cylinders immediately and pushing for automatic promotion. But the inverse is also just as likely. With such a huge squad rebuild, it may take months for the team to gel and we could have a string of poor results and performances which land us around the bottom 6.
one of the great things about the championship is a team who almost gets relegated could get promoted the next and vice versa i just dont like how big of a rebuild we need, look at Middlesbrough, they lost their best attackers and it took them 2/3 of the season to get going squads rarely just tick, it takes time and the margins are so small in the championship, 3-4 defeats can be the difference between 6th and 15th or lower currently, we've lost, delap, carvalho, morton, giles, ohio, zaroury, almost certainly greaves connolys probably gone too we are left with alot bang average players that dont even get a look in
I thought that was an utterly awful performance. We should have attacked from the off. Worst example of Rosieball I’ve seen. On top of that there were only 1,200 vouchers sent for 1,700 fans so most on the delayed London train missed out. Many thanks to the young lad who didn’t want his and gave me one. V nice gesture. But there was no closing down, no bite, v little desire.
