Get what you're saying but there's no room for sentiment either

If there is alot of money on the table for him this summer, then that's more useful than Salah at his current stage in his career.

Won't be worth £80m+ for much longer

I believe someone once said, Let them lose their legs elsewhere

I keep hearing this but then you have to ask, who do we buy to make up Salah's 23 goals?

Can’t see why people so keen for Salah to leave.

Yea he’s not quite hit the heights of previously but still scores goals. He’s going through poor form after being flogged by club and country the last 3 years and coming back from an injury.

31 isn’t the same as it was 10/15 years ago. Salah looks after himself so well his fitness levels should keep going for a while yet and although he may lose a bit of that speed, his finishing won’t just drop off a cliff. Look at players like modric, kroos, imbrahimovic, ronaldo. All going well into mid 30s and performing.

If someone comes in with silly offer and he wants to go then sure diff question but if he wants to stay and sign a new contract on reduced terms then I’d keep him here 100%.

Since half of them are penalties. Anyone already at the club

With £100m (potentially) who couldn't you buy. Also he's one of the biggest earners at the club.
Its about value for money, resale value and the the future of the team

But I'll admit I'm not a very sentimental person in general and especially not in sport.

Because we can remember prime mane and salah and how pace was massive to their game and see how one paced he now is.

His finishing was never amazing. He gets a lot of chances and a lot of runs before misses a huge amount.

As the chances dry up due to his pace going he might be down to hammering pens and hoping.

Ronaldo was a very different player. He slowed down 100% but went central and his finishing was far superior.

    Pace players are pace players.

Modric and kroos are totally different types of player.

Tje main issue is I think a lot of people can see how he just won't accept not playing all the time and not being centre of attention and probably worry that will be a massive issue for a manager like slot who will struggle to impose himself in a dressing room full of ego.

The fact is he got 23 this year. Great.

Thats in the dim and distant recent past.

The only question that matters is what does he get next season.

We'd hand pans to Macca and 100% score the pens and more reliably too.

If we've faith that salah would score 20 next season or we are so scared nunez, jota, gakpo won't then ok fair enough.

The problem we have is the rest did well enough for a long time this season but none really stand up as a main man for the future do they? You cant hang your hat on any one of them but they all contributed.

I think 5 of the 23 were penalties. Your top scorer is usually your penalty taker.

So throw out a few names that would be available for us to buy that replaces Salah's 23 goals.

All well and good saying we should sell Salah to the Saudis for big money but a) there doesn't appear to be an offer on the table yet and nothing specific has been mentioned beyond references to last summer. The Saudi spending was also very quiet on January. B) Even if there is an offer, he may well not want to go. He didn't make any real noises last summer and if he's as ambitious as we think he is, then he'd prefer playing in a proper league.

And if there's no Saudi deal, where else does he go that's going to spend big money on him? PSG habe moved away from a Galactico Model, Bayern were burned with Mane and don't need him, Barca have no money. Madrid would seem the best bet and that's an outside bet at best.

Not saying we should go for them but based on the league, Watkins has more goals and more assists, Solanke has more goals and Bowen has one less goal and three less assists. All would be available at the right price I would say.

More to the point, we'll need to replace Salah soon anyway.

There's been rumours since last summer that the Saudi's desperately want him. He is after all the highest profile Muslim player there has ever been. He is huge in the Arab world.

De Bryune has also been mentioned alot. So don't start thinking the Saudi's will have only one summer and then done.

It was quiet in Jan cause the Saudi league has strict registration foreign player rules so I would imagine Summer is the big transfer time for them.
I mean that really isn't for me to say. I'm not on the scouting team at the club. I don't follow what's going on in most of the other worlds leagues other than at a glance.

But if you're looking in England, Watkins? Bowen?

No one scored 150 goals being not a good finisher. The guy would score 9/10 when going through 1v1 and those curls into the bottom corner after cutting inside and opening his body.

Yes his pace was a huge asset but as you say with Ronaldo. He adapted his game. Who’s to say that couldn’t go salah down the middle with diaz Nunez either side going forward. He’s still the best finisher at the club behind Jota.

Salah isn’t just a pace player has far more to his game than that.

Eight of them were penalties so it's 15 goals really, plus the assists.

AMC is extremely good at penalties, arguably better than Salah.

    Bowen's goals in the PL - 1, 8, 12, 6, 16
    Watkins - 14, 11, 15, 19
    Salah - 32, 22, 19, 22, 23, 19, 17
Salah's worst total is more than Bowen's best despite his time out this season. Neither of those two are anywhere near good enough. Also both are rubbish at penalties.

We’ve also been a bit spoilt by Salahs goals. Name me another wide forward that constantly scores 15 league goals a season, let alone 20.

We probably aren’t going to be able to replace Salah like for like for a while. But if/when he does go, it’s about doing what spurs have done since Kane went. Instead of 1 person scoring 30 maybe 2/3 others chip in with 5-8. If szobo/mac/TAA can score 15-18 between them then you replaced most of Salahs goals via the midfield.

All of the above is fine but..

All that matters is will he score goals next year and the year after to justify 350k a week wage or not.

His prior record is largely irrelevant as an indicator of future performance but it gives some people confidence he will.

I still have no concept of what slots tactics will be but I cannot see us playing salah as the sole 9 in a 4231 nor as the 10.

At rw providing chances? We will see.

Yes we need a replacement but thst is thst.

What a silly thing to say. Past performance is the best indicator of future performance. It's not guaranteed obviously because nothing is but what else is used when assessing players especially when looking to buy?
