If our game vs Leeds is meaningless (so Ipswich win later tonight and on Tuesday) would mean both teams are in bad form going into the playoffs. Both teams could just go through the motions and play out a dull 0-0 where nobody wants to get injured, or it could be a big game psychologically to get a win before the playoffs and against a team you could face in the playoff final
Worse thing is if Hull win tonight and then win next week, and brom lose again and Hull come in with momentum. Then I'd back them to win the play offs.
If it’s us and Leeds in the playoffs I don’t think either make the final Norwich will win the playoffs
As I said after Ipswich, this (which is essentially not managing a game) and the inability to organise a defence will be Martin's downfall and ultimately is the difference between us being a good team and an excellent one.
Yeah. I completely get the poor start and losing run. But collapsing after the undefeated run and capitulating to Cardiff, getting thrashed by Leicester and losing at home to stoke. Im not excited for the playoffs.
Oh dear oh dear how on earth are we expected to win the playoffs by the way we played yet again . This Tappy tappy football we are playing is driving me potty. I’m not sure if I will be renewing my season ticket if he is still our manager next season. I’m not sure we have got a strong enough squad or weather it his methods. Sorry to say won’t be going to playoffs either as I have lost complete faith in the squad and management.
The last few weeks have been truly dismal, RM seems to have "lost" some of his players and now he has lost even the "happy clappers", I have never seen such lack of support at the final home match, they were there in numbers but miles away from backing the team, but puttting a second rate side out was never going to hack it. First time in years that I have walked out before the lap of honour. If they can't be asked, why should I?
I would likely see that as good thing, rather than bad. If Hull steal a play-off place (I don't think they will), it would more likely be a 6th placed finish rather than 5th. And finishing 6th would mean playing 3rd. I'd be very happy to see an in-form Hull, flowing with momentum, trying to take out Leeds (or Ipswich) in the SFs.
League Levels aside in my 30 odd years of watching saints this team have finished with the third highest points total and of course had a once in century unbeaten run, yet I feel just as deflated as any relegation season and have zero faith this team can get to Wembley, let alone win the play offs
It does, but on the other hand a lot of managers have a vision which requires the right personnel to make it work. Which is why Klopp was prepared to do whatever it took to get Van Dijk to Liverpool, and why Pochettino is a football genius when he has a Harry Kane or Cole Palmer in his side. This is also why Saints under Russ have been so reliant on Flynn Downes.
And yet, in Flynn Downes’ one season at Swansea, they conceded 68 goals, the worst GA Martin has had. I think FD has been one of our best players over the season yet I can’t get my head around him being so good and our GA total so bad.
Which is why I changed my vote to Martin out. I want a manager that will play a more rigid formation. I like 4-2-3-1 as it works and, IMO, it would best suit most of our squad.
