Yes their call, but unlike Australia we are in a deep recession with the government making huge cutbacks , there are over 1 million young people without jobs, and almost 3 million in total, so there is a very very tough job market out there! Why offer a student discount, the reason is that they have a limited income, and the club need to increase the fan base without alienating people that they always helped previously.
How have the prices gone up by 120%. Do they buy season tickets? They are in Swansea all year judging by your 'They are our future' speech. 120% increase on thier season tickets would mean they cost £943.80 per year, which is disgusting, or do you suggest they have to pay the same as anyone else who happens top be lucky enough out of the 2000 available to get a match day ticket?
crc not all students studying in Swansea are from other places, I would say that if you go to Neath college, gorseinon college, swansea metropolitan university , and others a majority are from the locality . The price of match day tickets have gone up by about 120% for them, and a season ticket by a similar amount. There is a big difference from £16 to £35 to watch the swans, if you are a full time student working maybe in a supermarket to make ends meet, that is a huge increase, they may be a long term fan who has gone to watch the club for years and because they are just doing their A levels now there is no way it can be afforded now IMO It's not just the students in a uni paid for by their parents etc, it's going to have an impact on those in the 6th form, or still in school, the fan of the future alienated and priced out just like yourself!
Musty they have a limited income because there are no jobs, don't you understand or what ? 3 million unemployed and looking for work, you obviously are not getting it, you maybe British but you don't live here, you don't know what people are going through!
Average wage would be about £200-£300 a week for people minimum wage is about £7 a hour, take about 25% for taxes and that is it. If you are unemployed you get about £70-£80 a week I think. If you are student you get EMA that is £30 a week and the government is stopping that, you can also get a student loan . And if you can find work you get that and pay taxes as above.
Jager. I know you are sympethetic to students in your posts, but surely thier money is no different to any other Swansea fan. As said before, the club should be taking care of season ticket holders who have put money in the coffers of this club, so they can invest in the summer transfer windows that have allowed the club to progress to this level.
This certainly has opened up a can of worms. I can see valid points from both sides, someone like Jager a good fan and a former mature student I have no problem with getting a discount. Then again Crc is obviously another good fan and gets no discount. I think what the problem is here is that perhaps some of us, me included, are thinking of your typical stereotype student the ones who spend half the day in bed, the other half on the piss and can barely while their own ass. This type of useless barely human specimen I have little time for and don't deserve any concessions. Looking at the big picture then it does look like the club have made a mistake in not offering student concessions this season. The bottom line and the point of this thread is that the ticket prices are most definitley wrong. The way they are carrying on the honest genuine fans will be priced out. I work full time and I receive NO benefits. I take my son and save up for season tickets and for our away games. I actually go without other things so that I can afford to do it. I receive NO concessions from the club. Now they want next seasons ticket money before the end of March. I was hoping for June again like other years. The way that Count Dracula and the other vampires on the board are carrying on the real fans will be priced out and the stadium will be like a library filled with glory hunting plastic fans just like the Emirates.
Can I put my pennorth worth in? Australia has avoided a recession not because of sound economic judgement. It'd because 45% of its work force are on temporary or casual contracts. I'm a teacher and was hoping to get home for Christmas but can't because i have no income over the summer holidays, Musty will correct me if I'm wrong but as far as i understand it there are no student discounts here for just about anything. Although that could be because prices are not high due to salary caps in Rugby League reducing club overheads. The Broncos fill Suncorp 55,000 regularly but The Brisbane Roar, (longest running undefeated team in world sport at the moment) are not getting anything like that. Bit like Swans and the Ospreys. If a club needs to expand its fan base it needs a stadium capable of accommodating them all first surely?
Thing is CRC, its not the student's fault that a discount existed for many many years, and I am not sure the proportion of fans who were taking up the offer, but to take it away, expect them to pay early, and massively increase the price is sure way to alienate fans. And who is to sayt hat they haven't been going to games for years, thereby putting money into the coffers of the club?
As Dill says, we are all supporters, and have different opinions. Some of us cant afford the terms that the board have put on us, others can. It just pisses me off that our great club is becoming a money orientated monster that we all hoped it wouldnt bcome. I know, on the pitch, we are very frugal and are receiving the plaudits, but on forums like this we get to see the true effects that are happening. As a welshman, dont get me started on the politics of this country, as we are going the way of the early 80,s and that witch Thatcher
crc, I'm thinking of emailing the club and telling then I like a bit of foreplay before being ****3d ! Aren't they getting enough with the increased attendance, sponsorship and TV money. Didn't we win a game at Wembley reputed to be worth £90M?
Dill, Totally agree with you mate. I would of thought that the loyal fans would of been taken care of reaching the premiership. Remember 2 seasons ago we were being promised free season tickets if we went up, but now we are here they want to sell our seats 3-5 months in. Bollocks. Feel totally let down by the club.
Rhysj your not on your on mate, my son is in Swansea Metropolitan University, studying civil engineering, and he feels the same way as you, he did think of Joining the Jack Army membership, but his Uncle in Cardiff, who is a member, told him it was not worth it, as you'll only get to see the Wigan and Bolton type games, he's really cheesed of with the club, with the way the tickets overall have been handled this season, and many of his mates feel the same way, the sooner the club (If we stay up) sort out the extra seating the better. On another note and being very selfish here, I was happy that Jenkins was going to start the season ticket next month, putting pressure on many who would not be able to renew, which would have given me a chance to have got a season ticket, but hell Jenkins has moved the goal posts for the likes of CRC, so at the end of the day none of this is ideal, and yes the club could handle things better, but the only way all this will be sorted is when the extra seating capacity is done!............... please log in to view this image PS: Mind if we come down to the Championship, there will be plenty of seating, because all the plastic will have dissapeared!!............ please log in to view this image
Which just shows that next season's pricing structure is going to have an effect on a local lad supporting his local team because of the huge increase in price, the only way the club will listen is to have many many people complaining about this, they have listened with the deadline of the tickets, its time that they listen to the concerns of genuine fans, think that the supporters trust should also have their ear bent on this.
It is all about supply and demand and with our stadium now inadequate for our needs it means the club have to get as much money in as possible for each seat to sustain premier league football. We only have 2000 available home seats for each game and the club have to offer them to adults, children and senior jack army members first. Students did have the chance to purchase season tickets at student rates along with the special cheap deals (£250 each) with finance available when they were offered back last spring but of course we weren't guaranteed premier football back then. You could look at Blackburn right now who are offering their fans the chance of buying 3 home tickets for just £20 because they can't get anyone in to watch them and their stadium is still half empty. Of course even we struggled to fill our stadium last season despite playing some great football and offered special kids for a quid to try and encourage youngsters to attend. It worked to a certain extent but of course now everyone is scrambling for tickets so the club have to try and make the most of the chance to make money to try and sustain our premiership status. It's tough on students and those who are not in a position to pay £35 but we are not expensive compared to many others in this division some whose capacity is two or three times bigger than ours.
With respects liberty that is pile of rubbish , so a student who has been going there for possibly years has now been told by the club that their prices have gone up to £35 a game from £16 , that smacks to me of not just maximising profits, but taking the piss! What next removing the child and oap discount to further increase profits ? I just think that the swans need to look at this because it's simply wrong ! They have always offered a student discount, think I will write to the evening post and ask them if it's fair to have a 120% increase in prices for a certain section of fans in such a short space of time. And I can see that the swans have given students a discount for season tickets now that they have extended the deal onwards to the end of march , but I could have sworn that wasn't there previously , but credit to them for that. And liberty you could watch man utd for cheaper than us, we are not the most expensive, but we certainly not the cheapest by a long shot.
Can I ask how much Norwich charged you Swans to get in to Carrow Road? Apparently we are charging Newcastle fans £45
