Was I alone in thinking away ticket allocations were 5% of capacity of grounds?

We took our full allocation of 1,800 tickets to Old Trafford from a huge sold out capacity of 75,500 today. How measly is that?

Last year when we played Chelski, Toon fans sang their hearts out i thought we had like one whole end but was anyone dismayed/surprised when cameras panned to a tiny contingent in the corner of Toon fans?

It's time we took more tickets. We could happily take 5,000 every game.

The pie man doesn't want to have to pay for returned tickets. We should take at least 3,000 though.

Agreed. We pay for returns over 50% allocation. Has he no appreciation of the amount of support?????

Incredible how much noise those 1800 made, sounded like a lot more than that. <applause>

Agree, it is absurd. I understand doing it at games like Stoke, shown on Sky, on a Monday night. But to only take 1700 / 1800 to Man City and Man Utd on Saturday afternoons at 3pm is a massive slap in the face to fans. I phoned the box office every day this week (at least 2 or 3 times per day) to try and get a ticket in the hope someone had returned theirs but with no luck. I'm resigned to the fact that I won't be able to get to any of the big away games this season (Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool - and obviously Man U and Man C have been and gone).

Was there and was probably one of the best atmosphere's I've heard from one of our away sections. Sounded equally as loud as Wigan last year with 5000! Great support.

Definitely makes it harder to get an atmosphere. There was a better atmosphere last year when we took the full allocation, but still fans were class as always. It also feels a bit more intimidating when you're surrounded on both sides by opposition fans

I love that. Brilliant when you score!
Horrible when they score though... hate that noise of silence in the immediate surroundings then eruptions of joy on all four sides around you :\

    I hate it <laugh>

When the home fans start singing and it's deafening, I just feel sick, cos you feel like you singing your heart out doesn't even compare to a few thousand more of them half-heartedly singing. It's just demoralising. It wasn't so bad today (cos Man U don't sing...)

Rarely happens (home fans outsinging us).
Man Utd fans loudest when booing penalty!

Forgive my ignorance on this issue but why is the away allocation so damned low then? I recall times in the past when away support would always be massive and drown out the home support every game.

Is this as a consequent 'punishment' to away fans for the Sammy pitch invasion at Doncaster or does it go further back last year or more down to the mean streak and hatred/distrust Ashley has for toon fans?

Ashley only takes 50% of the available away allocation as he knows anything we don't sell can be returned and we don't pay. If you take more than 50% and don't sell them then you still have to pay the home team.

We'd easily have taken double our numbers to Man C and Man U.
