Not sure how anyone can slag the Beatles, really. They were masters of the 2 min 30 sec feel good pop/RnB tune, selling black American music to white American kids. Not content with being imitators, they became brilliant innovators. Every new album was a departure, everything they did broke new ground. It is true that they became more interested in what they could do in the studio than on stage, but to say this was because they couldn't play their instruments is just laughable. Witness their performance from the roof of the Apple building in the West End in 1970 to see what they were capable of live.
****e pop has always sold by the bucket load. It's hardly a new phenomena. Everyone thinks that the charts when they were teenagers were utter garbage and that there was some great golden age in the past. Truth is the charts were always full of ****e as anyone who's stumbled across Top of the Pops 1976 on BBC4 will concur. Westlife have had something like 200 number ones compared to Bowie's five yet who has made the bigger impact on the evolution of rock music and how many people cite Westlife as an influence?
Can't beleive Cliff Richard hasn't got a mention on this thread. He must have been a big seller over the years which surely proves he truly is the greatest rock and roll star to ever come out of the British Isles
Correct. Could only write decent music when he was drugged to the eyeballs welshscousewanker - in what way were The Beatles not manufactured? A pretty boy band for pre present girlish. Not what they were like in Hamburg. Prick with no knowledge. A dangerous imbecile.
The 'fact' about Depeche Mode never having a number 1 single is total bullshit. I look at music from a global perspective and Depeche Mode have had a shed-load of chart-toppers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depeche_Mode_discography#Singles
Measuring talent and influence purely by popularity is just about the most ******ed thing anyone can do. We all know Van Gogh sold bugger all paintings and was a laughing stock when alive, but most would now agree that he was a genius who transformed how everyone looks at art, then at the opposite end of the scale, we all know Transformers was box office gold, but was basically a worthless piece of **** as a film (Megan Fox is worth perving over though). To put it another way, Jill Roberts (a girl I was at school with) was ****ed by 100s before she was 16, it didn't mean she was a great lover, or even much to look at, she was just the easiest lay for miles around.
The Beatles were overhyped over rated pish. That's my opinion. Make my own mind up about things instead of being told what I should like. The Kinks and The Rolling Stones were far better in my opinion. So **** off Prick.
The Beatles were a bunch of clueless, talentless , charmless ****s and it will be a great day when the other 2 pop their clogs so we can finally be rid of them.
I never diagreed with what the Beatles were but their impact on music since has been unquestionable. I disagreed with your opinion on Hendrix which was pure utter bullshit
