Puncturing the dinghies on the beach is a simple and effective solution which the French authorities do not seem to want to do. I wonder why? If no-one enters the water then no-one is at risk. It’s far easier for the French to just let them set off than deal with problem themselves.

Surely if the French were serious about stopping the boats, they could simply insist on the immediate return anyone landing illegally on English soil. That would save them having to patrol their coastline and put the majority off trying it in the first place.

I don’t give that much of a **** about the small boats. This even having a thread shows the deflection strategy is working. The evils of wealth distribution and tax avoidance are causing significant health harms and reductions in public services, including no investment in services for young people while they stab each other or attempt suicide and they have us hating people who get on boats who want a bit of money, to see their families, relative safety. And no we don’t have no services because we have migrants we have no services because Tory donors , supporters and people like Sunaks family dont pay their fair share.

Not entirely in agreement on every point there but public services are chronically underfunded and the people that work in them are being pushed to breaking point because of it. Blaming that on migrants is ignoring the problem.

There are people running private children’s homes who earn enough profit from the public purse to pay for an annual young people’s service.

The problem is for some making the crossing that life is so bad where they came from it’s worth risking their lives and their children’s lives to get to somewhere they feel they can start again. If their second language is English or know other people who’ve successfully claimed asylum here then they’ll try and make it to uk. Desperate people will always try and find a way.

Britain is generally a fair country we can be proud of but some of the open hatred is sad imo.

We now have vote grabbing lunatics like Reform suggesting we should 'engage' with the boats and just leave people to drown. I wonder what he'd like doing with the bodies when they wash up on our beaches in the summer.
