Fair enough about Simms. Really rate Wright, reckon they’ll be receiving bids for him this summer. It was always gonna be tough losing Gyokeres and Hamer - two quality players.
Reims arent a Luton for example. They have a good budget relative to league position. He has followed on from coaches he has been number 2 to. Didnt he want to bail out of Reims but couldnt? League 1 isnt elite in my opinion, once you get below 2 or 3 teams it is much of a muchness imo. I think some of his early career experience is really low level stuff. I love his journey, commitment and passion. I hope he is the next Pep. But right now we need someone with more gravitas and know how. In my opinion anyway.
Some might have looked at the context but others will just look at the results and thats it. Some would have watched some of Reims matches, some wont have. My point is there is more to a coaches performance than just what the results are. Yes their primary job is to get points but i look for how they set their teams up, how do they tweak things throughout the game to try n get a positive result, how did their team perform and are the players working hard still From the games I've seen reims tick those boxes without getting the results Some will write him off and dont want him because he is young and hasnt managed in the championship before - for me i see a talented coach who has got the absolute most out of the squad hes got Id rather him than a simon grayson type (an experienced manager in english football when he came to us - granted at an awful time) Now does that mean Still would be a success with us if we appointed him, no it wouldnt but id be pleased to see us go for someone who has performed well in the job hes in
Wanted to show loyalty to Garcia whos daughter was dying but Reims promoted him against his will and said to get out of the contract he'd have to pay 600,000. Crazy story and I think he's been itching to leave for a while. https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.c...ds-oscar-garcia-hes-never-spoken-to-me-again/
Yeah Wright and Sheaf will probably be the players they sell this summer and they'll reinvest heavily again. We need to get to that level.
They badly needed a right winger so agreed a deal with the lad at Peterborough, £5m iirc, then allowed him to stay there this season. As soon as the Japanese lad was injured that was season over, he's very good tbf. We're accused of showing no ambition, or judgement, but it's not easy this football lark. (This could all be wrong btw, it's from memory and I don't take much notice of them.)
Exactly. Most managers will go through a bad spell at some point during the season. Too many clubs, including ours, fail to recognise this and pull the trigger before giving the head coach/manager time to remedy the situation.
My biggest fear about Still or anyone remains the recruitment. Every coach including the experienced Mowbray suffered from our gaps and limited options. Not getting this right and we have a new coach with the same issues, which I don’t think can be fixed with current personnel. Two early crucial additions and they haven’t lost the fans by the windows end.
Personally I can’t stand the man, no logic to back up the reason why, but just don’t like the way he comes across. Having said that, nobody can argue that he isn’t good at what he does. He consistently produces the goods for them.
I think sometimes it is a bigger picture thing band the club rightly or wrongly have identified young talent over more established players, is that because of the re sale value or is it because we had no quality or very little quality in our 18 to 20 year old bracket as back up to the first team when KLD and KS took over. Even last year with the signing of Dack as an older pro he got injured pretty much straight away. Even looking at Corry Evans injuries we have had very little back up (although I do think DN has been very good this year). Basically we have had to build up the youth teams before adding the 'EXPERIENCE' as if the experienced player or players were to be injured we had nothing behind them. It has been a bad season and I do think we have overplayed our hand a little bit with development signings but I do also think that this transfer window is the first real opportunity to get them more established players in and if they get injured then we know we have a lad in the reserves or on the bench with minutes under their belt who can step in.
Gerhard Struber has left Red Bull Salzburg. He’s been pictured with KLD at Sunderland games previously…
this just an opinion mind but if speakman does go. i've got a little tiny feeling poyet might take his place just thought it was abit strange him coming out saying the owners having been talking to him about next coach and how he's really good friends with them
And importantly has been given time. Clubs are far too trigger happy. Sacking Mowbray achieved absolutely nothing and just destabilised the club. If they didn't think he was right for the job they should have got rid last summer and appointed someone they had absolute confidence in. Instead they've acted like headless chickens and performances have got worse. I'm absolutely convinced the club have got someone lined up and are pretty much seeing this season out and sucking up the criticism. I've said it before and repeating myself but we need better players if we are going to realistically challenge at top of table. That and a proper manager. Big few months ahead
I really did not like Poyet. I would be gutted if he came back to the club. The football we played under him was absolutely horrendous. Just passing it amongst the back six over and over until we lost the ball and conceded. That villa game is the worst game I ever went to at the SoL. Can't femember him signing well either, those lads from Brighton were really poor, never got the hype around Borini other than that goal. Wouldn't want him as a DoF either but then I'm not doing the hiring.
You’re bang on there. We’re nowhere near good enough atm and the model must change for us to challenge. I reckon we’ll be in this league for years and years.
