Which news outlets are linking it to climate change? Not the ones I've been looking at such as the BBC. Climate scientists will tell you its too difficult to link specific weather events to the overall climate trend.
Cloud seeding can't create moisture in the atmosphere it can only enhance precipitation rates. This weather event needed no enhancement - it was going to rain anyway - but even if seeding had taken place (which it didn't), it wouldn't have increased rainfall to any significant level. The main problem when comparing to similar weather events in the region in the past (of which there aren't many given the fact that it's a dry desert region), is that the urban infrastructure developed within the last 20 years was found woefully wanting in terms of drainage. Put simply; A lot of water lands on sand, it's rapidly absorbed. A lot of water lands on tarmac/concrete/buildings etc it's not rapidly absorbed. Ergo flooding. Climate change? Maybe. Impact of human activity? Definitely.
Sky mention cloud seeding, but then their weather producer said it was unlikely to be the cause, he makes a vague reference to some studies suggesting climate change may increase rainfall in the area. The biggest problem they have is that the place simply wasn't designed for heavy rainfall. https://news.sky.com/story/carnage-...hit-by-heaviest-rainfall-in-75-years-13116978
That's exactly it, I was on a teams call with our partner in Dubai yesterday and they just said it wouldn't have been that bad if they were set up to take rain, they just don't have drainage at all.... I'm sure you and anyone won't be to shocked to hear they also said the news outlets have made it out to be much worse then it was.
Just heard some BBC climate correspondent talking about a drought in africa, every other word was an if, may, might, could, possibly. Said we may see a 2 degree rise in temperature in the next 10, 20, or more years.
Cloud seeding seems to be the new buzzword for conspiracy lovers. Barely anyone would've heard of it a month or two ago, but Le Tissier and his ilk recently became obsessed with the idea of government weather modification, and that movement has subsequently latched onto the actually real concept of cloud seeding, which whilst real, is very limited in scope and success and is no more significant than it was a month ago when hardly anyone had heard of it. Worth keeping in mind as it inevitably continues to get brought up more and more.
Its crazy that in such a small online space We have virologists Rocket scientists Cardiologists Meteorologists Professional football managers Professional football players Scientists And authors Truly a priviliged space we all share
Best stick to the “ experts” on Sky then eh? Also can’t help noticing that your buzzword is “ conspiracy.”
Don’t you think the word ‘plethora ‘ is a wonderful word , like ‘conundrum’ and ‘cornucopia’ - just saying , anyway add musicians to that list because I’ve started guitar LOL
I was at HRI this morning, no Rover not Miranda House, and was attended to and on the way home in half an hour. When it works the NHS is superb. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
