I've started the long, slow, inexorable build-up to tonight's game. Another do or die fixture, that will re-live Rorke's Drift and The Battle of Britain in it's ability to overcome unbelievable odds, and emerge triumphant. Not that this season/game/Match Day Thread needs any more hype, but: "Never, in the field of Footballing conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." In short, we've got this. Come On You Saints!!!
We are in with this tiniest of lifelines thanks to the top 3 slipping up in the last few games, but that lifeline requires us to win every game...which means our next game is always the biggest game of the season up until the point we fail to win one. As RM said in the presser, so difficult to know whether Prestons heads will have dropped as they are basically out of the play off race now, however you could say they have the tiniest of chances and need to win all their remaining games just like we do. Depends on their players belief, but they could come at us with a nothing to lose mentality and then it will be a much tougher game. Makes it a difficult game to call. If we play near to our best level for more than a half we should have too much for them. Win this and you can genuinely say that we have some momentum on our side again and that can carry you a long way.
I think if they come at us with everything they have it’s better for us than turning up not interested in the win with a low block.
Dishwasher was a disaster this morning. Still had a rack of cups left when the kettle boiled. C'mon Saints let's do this and prove once and for all that the dishwasher game is BS.
I had the same issue with the laundry, but then realised that it’s a rearranged game, so you get a second go. Three in three on second try.
I may make a mess with lunch and as I am having an early dinner put it on again then. Fast wash, then empty at 7:30pm. Wish me luck
Win the next 2 and, regardless of other teams results, we are back in it. We are going to have beat at least one of Leicester or Leeds, decent chance we will need to beat both but maybe a draw and a win might be good enough. But we definitely have to win the other 3 (Preston, Cardiff and Stoke). Anyway just have to take each game as it comes and look at each of them as a cup final in their own right.
Don't go blind Lemmo, your insightful match thread comments are needed to see us through the nail biting end to the season and on to the sunlit uplands (some may disagree with that description) of the premier league.
We say the players need to be brave for the next 5 games but so do we supporters. It is now about supporting the team no matter what.
