£4m on someone who’s not better then someone we own would be really daft given atm we won’t be free spending this summer
Injured or not, I remain to be convinced by Giles. After today I’m less convinced. He had lots of space and contrived to do the sum total of **** all when receiving the ball in that lots of space.
It’s all about opinions I respect yours, respect mine For me with a full pre-season in the bag Giles will be one of the stars next season if we’re still in the championship. Also you need two players in each position… good players !!!!
Don’t disagree but I don’t think £4m on a non out and out starter is good business for non parachute payment clubs
I’d save the £4m on Giles. Jacob has demonstrated he’s more than capable. Just need a back up for Jacob. He’s a real talent and a great passer.
To be effective Giles needs a striker to aim at. His main asset is crossing and during his time with us he's had to try and find Fabio in between 2 7ft CBs. I'd be interested to see how he links up with Delap in these final few weeks, suspect it could be deadly
He’ll have to get the ball before he worries about who to play it to, in the last two games, he’s barely had any more involvement in the game than I did sat in E7.
The option on Giles is £4m. Could we just opt not to and wait and see if anyone else comes in? If Luton manage to pull off survival, they will surely look to offload and we might (even if it’s unlikely) be able to get him for less? I’d imagine there will be other interest but money’s tight for most teams so you never know
I know Jacob is part of the squad, but I think real one to one in the close season would turn him into a gem of a LB.. and he's costing wages...
Jacob doesn’t just influence the game out wide, he drifts into central areas loads. Played a beauty of a line breaker in the first half, like you say Giles barely gets forward and is pony defensively so a no brainier for me at this stage.
Hull boss Liam Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside: "It's been coming, analysing our performances, the areas we get to and the control and dominance we've had in a lot of the games. The difference today was that we were really clinical. "The players are showing a level of performance that gives me so much confidence going forward. We've got a tough game against Watford next week and all we can do is focus on winning that and see where we end up. "We just keep going. This club has always kept going until the end and I refuse to give up. "If we keep playing with that belief and quality there's no reason why we can't make what we set out to achieve." QPR manager Marti Cifuentes said: "I was really disappointed with the result. We played against a very good team and they showed their quality after we made a good start to the game. "I am now not thinking about the narrative of this game - now it is time to move on. Now is the time to stay calm. We have three games to go - two of them at home - so it is up to us. "I have been saying it (safety) could be (decided) until the last minute of the season. "Five months ago, perhaps even one month ago, we could only dream (to be 19th in the table). People thought this would be a walk in the park but that is not the case. "It's up to us. We need to remain together and keep pushing."
In all fairness, the clear focus recently is to have the RB(slater) further up and the LB sat further back. Giles hasn't had too much opportunity to show what he can do and certainly not whilst we have a new found confidence going forward. He joined when we were struggling as an offensive outfit and for the most part looked relatively sound at the back until an awful time against Leeds which is a tough fixture for any fullback. He then had a bit of a dodgy cameo while still carrying a knock. Not saying we should pay the money for him but he's a decent age and was highly rated so I would for sure like to see him come back in for the next few games and give him a chance to see how he fits with our developed style along with Delap up top. Jacobs has looked pretty solid but I wouldn't like to go into a season chasing promotion with him as No1 LB at this stage.
Apparently the club are trying to get Carvalho on a permanent. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Morton & Delap do another season with us also.
I think if anything happens with Liverpool lads it'll be later in the window, you would think the new boss coming in to Liverpool will want to make his own choices on who goes etc. ( maybe not so much Morton, but I still think it'll be later in the window)
Carvalho shouldn't be playing in the Championship next season. I still don't think he gets the credit he should do here. 8 goals in less than half a season, that's a better rate than Oscar's fabled 13 and he's not even a striker. His reliability in front of goal is KLP or Bowen-esque. The Giles debate is interesting. I was very much in the happy to sign him camp, and if we do I'll support it. But on paper it does seem a large fee and Jacob does seem very good every time he plays.
I thought Jacob had a good first 45 mins but I thought he started to look quite ragged 2nd half. Quite possibly because of a lack of games but I wouldn't want him as the starter next season when there's going to be instant pressure on.
