We’re down to 16th, which is appalling. But if things stay like this then we have have secured our L1 status for another year, with 2 matches to go. Whooppeeeee. Thanks GFP.
That was pre-Jones. He has saved our season. But our form since he took over puts us about 6th or 7th if repeated across a whole season. Not good enough for me I’m afraid. Yes, we can strengthen in the summer if funds are available, but the division will be much tougher next season.
NJ has raised expectations, but we're still the same players who were heading for L2 under Apples. 3 managers this season, none of them could keep a clean sheet or stop the defensive howlers. We need a commanding goalie and a leader in the defense. Hector was supposed to be the leader but he just isn't, and what has happened to Lloyd Jones.
Lloyd Jones is a donkey and if he is a 1st choice next season (which I don’t think he will be) then things won’t have improved much at all.
FT 1-1 The fact that we can’t beat the likes of Cambridge, Stevenage, Exeter and Fleetwood in recent weeks shows how much work and how much money still needs to be done and spent. We did well against top teams in February, but our form since has been very average.
As fans we can clearly see where we need strengthening so I’m pretty sure NJ can see the same , he’s come in and stopped the rot! Hopefully he’s given the funds to build his own squad - never a dull moment a?
Good. It seemed like we could have cleared that several times but we were do half-hearted. So a draw. Who'd have thought that!!
Alfie's the only player we've got who knows where the net is. Leaburn may or may not be the answer up front, we just don't know. Anyway we need goals from midfield too, even the odd one from defenders.
13 games unbeaten now That muppet presenter on SSN hailed it as an amazing achievement. No doubt the spin doctors at the Club are using it to try and sell a few more season tickets. It is now mathematically impossible for this season not to be the worst Charlton Athletic 3rd tier season since 1926. We cannot now catch even the meagre haul of 60 points gathered by Russell Slade and Gobbo. Even if we win both our remaining matches CAFC will still have the lowest number of wins for a 3rd tier season in 98 years. Nathan Jones has saved us from the 4th Division. Given what he inherited that alone is an achievement. But there is no glory in it as far as I'm concerned. No reason for pride or a sense of accomplishment. This football Club has sunk as low as it ever has done in living memory. It must break Alan Curbishley's heart to see it brought down like this.
Here's hoping for a better future. But I believe that as long as we (the older generations of fans who can still remember how things were back in the 1980's through to 2007) still have breath in our bodies, we will never accept the depths to which our beloved Club has fallen. I'm beginning to hope that Nathan Jones understands that. But I have had similar hopes in the past and they have always been dashed. It's difficult to trust again.
Hopefully we'll see early indications of recruitment once we hit the 1st July for new signings. Contracts run to the 30th June.
NJ was far more open in his postmatch interview. He knows exactly what's wrong. I trust himto put it right. Not necessarily in one season though.
Alfie May sold to free up wages for Wickham and Lua-Lula……after all we must remember that the new owners didn’t want Alfie May
Put it right? Or get so wound up by the bungling of SE7 that he has to quit, or is fired. I fear the second scenario is much more likely.
The next in a long line of our managers who have been promised funds and been given peanuts ? I’m still waiting for an explanation of how you can reduce losses by 8/9 million per year but spend much more on wages, without putting in non-repayable cash.
