Have to disagree. There was a noisy minority wanted him gone, which some of us found odd having achieved what he did last season. My opinion is there has been a subtle rewrite of history on Mowbray since he has gone. I have read everything from his press conferences were embarassing, to he had no plan b, or he wasnt able to coach young players. A major gripe for some seemed to be he didnt trust the new lads, but neither have the other coaches. It has shown to be wise as well in reality when a couple have gone on loan and those who have stayed have looked short of first team levels. Mowbray has shortcomings, but what he achieved last year was extraordinary and the style of football was magnificent. And some of the improvement in players was exceptional. If anything folk dismiss him as opposed to bigging him up after his sacking.
Looks like Jimmy Thelin could be off to Aberdeen. We can cross him off the list then. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68783946
From what I have seen and looked at when he was linked to us, I think that's a great appointment. As long as they have the players to suit his quick, direct style. Really wanted us to appoint him so looking forward to see how he progresses.
Watching Hull tonight mind, I think Rosenior would be the man I want. Our best hope would be the Hull chairman buggering off which is being talked about, but his team plays some exciting well organised football.
Really rate him. One of my favourite up and coming managers. Other former pros speak really highly of him too.
I think I kind of agree and disagree at the same time. Yes we need a coach who can achieve what you say but not sure we need somebody older or that they need to have the experience that you elude to as that experience may well lead us to appoint a tried and tested manager who may well bring stability but also bring 20 years of this is how it has always been done attitude. I said earlier for some we may as well go and get Bruce back as he will tick all the boxes but will he help revolutionise our club and be able to point us in the direction of football or what we think football will be in the next 10 years and beyond. I don't think we need a young Coach but I do think we need a Coach who is forward thinking and can relate to our young squad, can align themselves with the club and the fanbase and embrace new ideas and implement change across the whole of the club from nutrition to physio and medical, from commercial to practical. They don't need to do everything but they do need to make sure we have the right people (best in class) doing the right jobs at the right time. I think the club have a chance to appoint somebody who will grow with the club and will help push us toward a brighter future keeping us 1 step ahead of the opposition, they got it wrong with MB, TM was great initially but seemed to lose his hunger for it at the start of this season (maybe his health had something to do with that ??) but this time they really need to get it right and that is not going to be easy. Tried and tested safe pair of hands. (Heckingbottam) type. Up and coming coach with good values but less experience.(Will Still) type. Out of the box wild card no experience but big personality. (Jermaine Defoe) type Coach with good experience and good records but not necessarily in this country (Marek Papszun) type I guess these are the 3 or 4 different types we could be looking at out of names linked or mentioned and I am sure you will all be able to add more detail but for me I think number 2 or number 4 appeal as I think we need something new. Just my opinion of course but I think we have trodden down the same path so many times that I think we as a club need a good shake up, if it works genius if it doesn't back to the drawing board. For what it is worth I think MB was kind of half and half of what we needed. A decent coach but not an enigmatic personality, he ticked a lot of boxes but not the big boxes and I think that was his problem and ours he was just quite simply not the right fit.
You're quite right, there were lots of varying opinions pro, con and meh. My comment was dashed off and only applies to a certain group of people. To be clear, I liked Mowbray and initially enjoyed his press conferences then as the results because poor, and the football predictable, he started to annoy me with his moaning about the club. I saw some great games under Mowbray and he did a great job in that first season.
Sure sounds like it Will be Still. Majority of the squad are english or French speaking. He's also used to his clubs model of flogging their best players and rebuilding each year. Young, highly rated. Sounds a fit. I'd rather experience but gotta respect their consistent approach to our strategy. Only way it works is if don't deviate too much (please but some experience)
Reims are now looking for replacements for Will Still, suggesting they are preparing for life without the 31-year-old. Le10sport’s article goes on to confirm that Reims have a €5million (around £4.2million) release clause in Still’s contract. The same report adds that Still already has ‘serious contacts’ in England, with Sunderland reportedly keeping tabs on the Belgian-English coach https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/mercato-reims-pense-a-habib-beye-691790#google_vignette
No because I've done some homework on him with 2 folks in France. 1 is an English based agent, the other is a ex Mackem living in Limoge and watches Reims a lot, it's just my opinion remember.
Def not as bad as beale like - not sure we will top that one Still is an interesting one, there is a talented coach there and hes done a cracking job everywhere hes been - just worry about the fit. Not sure how good he is at developing youngsters n some of our fans will be rubbed up by the way he speaks - now that shouldnt have any impact on their ability to do the job but it does at our club for some reason Im still hoping we get Rohl, just have a great feeling about him tbh
Best be open minded about these things. The guy might not be the next messiah of football management but he's clearly no joke.
I'd say Rohl's CV is more impressive than Still's. Very similar starting points and Still has more experience as Head Coach but Rohl has had more high profile experience as an assistant.
Amir Richardson, Mohamed Daramy, Reda Khadra, Oumar Diakite and towards the back end of the season Valentin Edoa have all been good for Reims this season and are young. Balogun last season as well. Watched this yesterday and I really like him and the way he comes across and the way he interacts with the players. It's in French but it's subtitled, and Still often breaks into English. They are currently 7th, that would be their highest Ligue 1 finish since the 70s apart from when they finished 5th in the 19/20 Covid shortened season so who knows where they would've finished. And this is in a season where Reims lost 6 players to AFCON/Asian Cup for a long stretch of games. Bilingual, tactically astute, good communicator (to me, as you say no doubt our fans will have an issue with it), track record of developing players, and taking Reims to positions they aren't accustomed to. Don't get the negativity of some fans, but I guess there's no pleasing some.
