Yeah I could understand if we were actually using his strengths but I don’t see him do anything that any other goalkeeper couldn’t do, if the only reason we have him is due to his ball playing abilities why do we never do it or gain from it. Just a complete waste.
Entertaining game, but why the hell are we so ****e at home!? I can't get my head around it...That's 8 ferking draws... 21 games played x 3 points = 63....We've manged to assemble 29 points!!!! 46% ...clearly not good enough, by half and needs addressing big time... Also the seemingly reluctance to shoot when you can see the whites of the keepers eyes......eg Morton last night.....Don't get my wrong, he's a good player, but might never be a great player if he doesn't have a pop when well placed. Shame, but eh that's football, I guess.
Allsop has cost us a lot of points this season. Yeah, he might spray the odd ball about, but the rest of the time it's within the capabilities of any keeper to pass it around the back. It's not just the odd clanger, it's routine saves. How he is a championship keeper is beyond me. That one is on Liam. As for last night....if Morton had just shot, we either score, goal kick, but hopefully some other outcome to them scoring. Not street wise enough. Why did no one just pull someone down and take a yellow. I think we'll still finish within 5 maybe of the play offs. Maybe a little more. We will all look back on saves thst should have been made... and just seeing out 2/3 games. Still optimistic for next season. There are signs. Sadly, I think tubby might get another year just because of the potential overhaul of players.
That's exactly what he did though? One went through his legs from a tame shot at a difficult angle and then he also spilled a shot straight into the strikers feet which he couldn't sort his feet out to rebound it in...
Yepp. Spot on IA. I got shot down early doors about Allsop been crap. Even the Cardiff fans told us to leave well alone..I reckon I've been proved right....He's dogtod. Pandur in at No. 1 for next season, for sure.
Allsop is just a limited keeper, that's all. It's not his fault...if that's the right word. With the promotion push we should have gone out and got a better one in, one with shot stopping in there arsenal. Oh wait...
Well, I'd like to think so but at least on the surface Liam doesn't always give the impression of being a man for changing. Would still love to see a hard tackling CDM who gets in the face of the ref and his teammates and somehow means we win the important moments which the manager accepts is the problem. A Richie Smallwood for the Championship.
the first goal shows Greaves miles out of position in the centre of the field leaving a huge gap in the centre of our back three, - Boro exploited this and got a free shot at goal which Allsopp failed to deal with - hope that helps
It would be madness to choose a goalkeeper on their "ball playing abilities". It's a bit like us choosing strikers for their ability to sit on the bench.
I’d love to see Pandur getting an opportunity, and also think that Allsop has made too many mistakes…however, I get why LR has stuck with him. Despite some poor results we have been (and continue to be – just) in a play-off chasing position. It’s not exactly a time that you rock the boat and start swapping out the fit players that got you there, even if they do make occasional errors. We also made a lot of changes up front, all at once, after January, and I think keeping him in was a way of keeping consistency in other areas of the pitch. In terms of Allsop and other players’ mistakes, we have to remember we’re a championship team with a limited budget. We can’t afford a keeper that has amazing shot stopping abilities that can also make a decisive pass to a winger. Even if we could, they’d likely be playing in a higher division. We’re going to be reliant on signing players whose strengths outweigh their weaknesses. If we’re ever going to have a player that can do everything, we’re going to have to have developed that player. We’d probably end up selling them once they showed their potential, as that’s clearly a big part of the business plan. Look at Omur as another example. Posters on here want to see him put more goals in. If he does, he won’t be our player for long. I’d wager that his inconsistency in scoring goals at this point in his career is why we're able to sign him in the first place. I think the youth and inexperience of the loan players was obvious to see last night. Morton’s hesitation to shoot is the prime example. Someone mentioned the term ‘street wise’ in a post, which is a good way of thinking about it. If Morton was more experienced and street smart he’d be playing in the Premier League, not on loan with us. We talk about the quality of our attack (its strength) a lot, but we also have to remember the age and inexperience of our attack (its weakness). There will be games when the strengths do not outweigh the weaknesses.
I enjoyed the game last night, shame about the result. I don’t understand why we keep persisting with playing Allsop out of position. He just simply cannot play in goal and this little experiment of Rosey’s has continually cost us goals, points and now eventually the whole season.
