v upload_2024-4-8_9-40-28.png - Back to Ashton Gate for a tough game where Blackburn have not lost in their last six games- drawing at home to Southampton Saturday and a fantastic away win at Sunderland 5-1 where we struggled on Saturday. It was the Max O'Leary master show that kept us in the game where they could easily have put 4/5 against us.
This could be a game to far and another loss could quite easily be on the cards.
We just can not score goals the Achilles heal of this season and hence why we sit mid table and not further up the championship.
I said from day one before a ball was kicked in anger it would bite us on the ass and that has clearly proven to be the case.
I am going for a 1-2 to Blackburn Rovers who come to Ashton Gate in fine form.
Next season unless Bristol City invest in a new front line and the management team improve our points ratio we are going to struggle- as it stands a lower championship status relegation battle will be looming.
The joys of following Bristol City FC.

So far you have hoped & predicted a loss in the past 6 games.. As it sits we don’t need to worry, no threat of relegation, unlike the past few seasons :emoticon-0105-wink:
We should look to involve the youngsters imo

I will be honest, I’m not sure what we have that’s available, I’m not sure who’s eligible..
maybe we could give Bajic and Mebude some more game time.

I’m not sure either is ready, Bajic maybe worth a go, although if they’ve already decided he’s not going to stay there’s no point. I can’t think of anyone that is on the verge of the first team tbh

Yes he was very lucky to have some great youngsters there he could use...he had nothing whatsoever to do with the fact they were there in the first place, it has to be said :emoticon-0103-cool:

Of course he wasn’t, but him and his coaches took them from academy hopefuls to first team regulars, let’s hope our present coaching staff are as successful with the latest bunch of hopefuls

Depends on how much involvement allowed from LM being he’s first team coach as apposed to Nige who was manager..I’m not quite sure how it works but that’s my interpretation

He still picks the team regardless of what his title is.

But I don't know the involvement he has with the academy is what I'm saying....Maybe Nige had more as he was manager and not just first team coach

Bryan and Reid were first team regulars , Vyner wasn’t first team regular under LJ, he went to Accrington and Aberdeen wasn’t it?, Kelly had a dozen or so games, Semenyo didn’t feature much either. Chelsea were interested when he was at Newport, but weren’t willing to pay much for him.

The best way to build a team that can challenge is to sell all of your best players for as little as possible and then not replace them with better talent. Bristol City haven't got a clue when it comes down to the basics and if this upcoming summer is anything like the rest then we will struggle next season and get exactly what Lansdown deserves for his apathetic approach to running our team. I also have a feeling that Max may get a better offer than being the scapegoat for very poor decision making at the very top level. It's a cruel world out there and you get back only what you are prepared to put in. When I look and see our best ex-players generally thriving in the Premiership it makes my blood boil because we never even came close to replacing them with anything other than 3rd rate 3rd tier statues.

Mike, if we didn’t sell Semenyo we would probably be relegated now as we would have breached FFP. If you lose more than 39 million in a rolling three years you breach it.
We don’t sell enough season tickets to pay for the overhead cost so we’ve no choice but to sell to the highest bidders. Even with Nige’s cost cutting we are still losing money.
People go on about what about Bournemouth, they took a big gamble and got to the prem but if they never the first time they would have been screwed. They did get caught and had a 13 million fine but with TV revenue in the prem that was peanuts.
Next year could be different with TV rights and lot more games on Sky (bad news for you, as overseas Robins will be hit)
The biggest issue in my mind, was this rolling 39 million was set early teens years, and has not moved with inflation plus they was hoping players might lower their wage demands I suppose. But even Covid didn’t stop players wanting more.

Plenty of clubs have tried to buy their way into the prem, some are treading water some are in league one and some in league two now.
Also every club in the Championship have to sell, it’s not just us. Even Ipswich that can carry their financial ruling in league one which is different to championship need to do it either this season or next or they will be hit as well.
Now with the Prem clamping down, you can see Forest have been hit, Wolves couldn’t afford Scott.
Brexit has played a part but that has been relaxed allowing 4 players who don’t need to be full internationals into the clubs may widen the field.

So it’s not just Bristol City, that’s stuffed it’s everyone unless you get lucky like Luton, or Ipswich this season.

Not being as close to the sources leaves me at some distance from some of the more pertinent facts regarding sustainability. Seeing that we don't spend much, if any money, on attempting to improve our team why on earth are we so scared of the FFP unless someone has invested the monies involved so badly? Until such time as the ruling authorities clamp down on blatant overspending by the elite and make them share some of their revenues to assist the rest of the football pyramid, on which they are more than happy to prey on for players, then the chance of clubs such as Bristol City ever being able to compete are virtually non-existent. Essentially by allowing this elitism to continue the FA and other governing bodies are more than prepared to see clubs that have been in existence from day one to fall by the wayside and disappear from view for eternity. It is so sad to see the possibility of ever seeing your dreams come true for the club you have supported since your youth have no chance of being realized. :emoticon-0121-angry

Hoping for another positive performance and result which will get fans on Mannings side of which ultimately is what he needs currently if it continues for the remainder of this season.

Tonight we could witness what we missed by not bringing in Sammy Smodzics to be our number nine. How come we get things so wrong?
