https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...rating-evening-for-daniel-farkes-side-4585473 By Joe Nicholson Pierre Ekwah says Sunderland executed their game plan well during their goalless draw against Leeds United - despite having to suffer for most of the match. Mike Dodds’ side recorded just 30 per cent possession at Elland Road and had to defend in numbers for large spells. Still, the hosts were only able to register one shot on target, missing the chance to go top of the Championship. When asked about Leeds’ frustrations, Ekwah replied: “Obviously they were, we were as well, but obviously they were playing to get promoted. We really stopped them well so that’s definitely a frustrating position to be in. We had chances and there is definitely more frustration for them. It’s understandable that the Leeds fans and team were getting frustrated. From our part we did really good.” “It’s always great to play in this sort of stadium against those sorts of players. They were tough and we suffered most of the time but we did execute our game plan and it looked like we could win at times.” The result means Sunderland have kept four clean sheets in their last five matches, with the only exception their 5-1 defeat against Blackburn. “We still want to finish the highest we can,” added Ekwah. “We still want to go out there and perform for the fans. I just think it’s important and we owe them. It always starts with a strong mindset and we have shown that in the last four or five games, apart from the Blackburn game.” Mike Dodds says Sunderland's Timothee Pembele is best as a wing-back https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...-sunderlands-timothee-pembele-best-wing-back/
And they had no response, things always hurt more when they're true. The worst thing about playing Leeds is that dreadful anthem of theirs ... ... iirc it was written by a southerner and hated at first because of that. It sounds like a Salvation Army song
Been saying this for ages - we are an experienced CDM and an experienced CF away from being a team able to compete for top 6 or higher. Stick a Ross Stewart, Ellis Simms or Josh Maja in the team and we'd have taken 6 points from last 2 matches
Speaking with my Dad and he says that it is a sporting urban myth that they were a great back in the 1970's. Now they did win a few things but have been runners-up more times than winners. Strange how this feat of the mighty Leeds has grown he says.
Dirtiest cheating vilest football team ever to walk out onto a football pitch, a carbon copy of their scumbag of a manager.
They were a very talented team but were hated by the rest of the country, with their use of the dark arts. Clough had them sussed but the players won out and he didn't last long. To think Revie played a part in our history just before Clough joined us.
I'll second that, Bremner, Giles and Collins probably the smallest trio of midfielders but my God they were the dirtiest, Chuck in a bit of Norman Hunter and Jackie Charlton and you've got a full house. To think Don Revie used to play for us...what an awful manager he turned out to be..dishonest to the core.
When they brought their subs on it shows the money difference. How much was Gnonto for example. Makes a mockery of the parachute money.
None of those players were 'on the beach' last night as far as I could see, they all worked their socks of for Dodds and there were no signs of any turmoil or disharmony. Pembele isn't as 'hopeless' as some feared, nor is Stiles imo, and O'Nien seems to keep improving as a central defender ... ... he looks like he might be a decent emergency keeper as well
Another City reject to go along with so many others , Roberts being the latest, Rodwell one of the worst ,
For a 0-0 game, it was a heart in the mouth at times kind of game but enjoyable. Lads gave it all on the pitch and with a bit more calmness up top we might've nicked it
Anyone else notice a big shift in Patterson's game last night? During the warm up he practiced punching crosses then during the game he was more aggressive on corners attacking the ball and punching, although they fell short at times they added to a good defensive display. Really excellent performance all round and would love to have nicked it and at last some luck and decisions going out way.
Yeah I didn’t get all the comments beforehand about us being on the beach. May have looked that way against Blackpool but they sorted that for the next game. Why assume they’d be back on the beach rather than they’ve sorted their heads out after a deserved kicking.
He did seem a bit more commanding in the way he came for things and had some good punches out. Just needs to sort his distribution out now (although I didn’t notice anything particularly poor last night).
