Werner isn’t good enough if Spurs want to be taken serious and become contenders.

Just because he’s better than Gil doesn’t mean the club should sign him

If we sign a striker and Werner's backup and competition for Son, then he'd be a good signing.
He's already had a decent impact and he's only been here five minutes.
Postecoglou seems to rate and like him, too.

That was a weird one, wasn't it?
Started well, conceded a stupid goal, then went to pieces.
Werner got a knock just before things went wrong and looked injured.

Much better 2nd half and the subs at the break worked wonders.
Still a few nervy moments at the back, but it was a well deserved win.
Cracking finishes from our defenders and also one of theirs! <laugh>

I think that one reason that our midfield is struggling is the system.
Whoever plays the Bissouma/Hojbjerg role is supposed to be a holding player.
We don't have any, so it's square pegs in round holes.

Porro scored for his mum's birthday. Isn't that nice?

I actually thought Bissouma did ok but he doesn't seem to gel with Sarr at all. The youngster had a very poor half, falling over and misplacing passes. But changing both certainly worked! :emoticon-0148-yes:

I am far from his biggest fan but I thought Hojbjerg did well when he came on, and then he almost went and undid all his good work with some awful passes, one of which almost cost us a goal. That`s the problem with Hojbjerg, he has these moments in his locker and can not be fully relied upon, Ange also appears to think he is not quite the right fit for his system, so he`ll probably be gone this summer.

I also thought the tackle on Lo Celso could easily have been a red card, we have seen red cards for similar and if that was Romero he would have been sent straight to Stalag Stockley Park, maybe it was seen as evening up after the Maddison incident.

I don't get the hate against him.

He was never signed to be a first choice player. He was signed because Perisic got injured, Gil is crap and Solomon has vanished from the face of the earth.

As it happens, imo, he has so far been one of our best ever January signings.

Not for me, there’s a reason Chelsea sold him and Leipzig don’t want him. There’s plenty better out there than Werner.

Timo Werner one of our best ever January signings and Son, with 23 goal contributions in 29 games is “clearly in a decline”.

CK I need what you’re smoking, mate.

    Edit: 24 goal contributions.

Sadly, the bar is set quite low on that front.

As much as Spurs need a good striker, the defensive midfielder issue is probably more vital. A proper DM would go a long way to solving a lot of issues

He wasn't the answer for Chelsea or RB because they were asking the wrong question. They were looking for a first choice player and the prices they paid (£50m and £30m) reflect that.

£14m for a squad player who clearly fits the system and has contributed 2 goals and 4 assists in 11 games is a sound piece of business, for me. Doesn't mean I see him as the 'future' of the club. But if we want to improve the overall quality and depth of the squad, he's a cheap and proven option.

Or we could gamble £28m plus Royal on another unheard of youngster and hope they'll be better, like we did with Gil.

The fee is immaterial for me. Don’t rate him and think the club could find someone better.

Gil seems to be your constant fall back for whenever looking to praise or promote Werner’s potential signing. If that’s the bar you’re looking to beat then it shows where the issue is.

Werner’s done ok, he’s not been as terrible as I’d predicted but he’s nowhere near this great signing you’re making him out to be either, he’s put in some absolute stinkers along with grabbing the odd decent assist. He’ll have served his purpose as a filler for this season and that should be it.

Name 5 better January signings in the PL era. I'm stuck at Bentancur, Kulusevski (although he's on borrowed time) and Porro (although he did almost nothing last season).

Son simply isn't impacting games across 90mins like he used to. Yes he picked up another assist today but overall he was awful. I don't think that's up for debate. He's showing the same decline at international level too, so this isn't unique to us.

We definitely could, I'm not arguing with that.

All I'm saying is if we do make his move permanent, it wouldn't be the herald of the apocalypse as some are making it out to be.

For me it would be a disappointing signing and I think Spurs would be left with another player that they’d struggle to get rid of when it goes tits up and they’ve already got enough of them.
