Bolton guaranteed play off and still could win auto promotion at expense of Derby, Peterborough and Barnsley
I keep reading people posting stuff like "but we only beat Rotherham". Given the other scenario of being beaten I just wonder what people expected Argyle to do. Had we lost it would have not been the end of the world but it would have been a big step towards it. So, given the pressure of the occasion we were never going to entertain the masses but still held the nerve to win it. There are going to be a few turns and twists to come no doubt so I'm keeping my powder dry on safety. It was 3 points and welcome though. Rotherham have been doomed for weeks now so it was more of a mercy killing than anything else. They really are a yo-yo club if ever there was one. I think they have only missed out on either up or down once in the last 7 or 8 years.
Autos between the top three, Posh and Barnsley out of that race now, too much ground to make up at this late stage. Bolton have the toughest run in, so Pompey and Derby probably.
A Pompey win or draw on Saturday against Bolton will secure them promotion, Peterborough have two games in hand v Port Vale & Fleetwood they could put a lot of pressure on Derby, they are away at Oxford though on Saturday
I just don't think Posh are consistent enough, hence why I often put them as a draw - and I'd rather have the points in the bag than two games in hand. Even if they win those two games in hand they will still be 2 points off Derby, just can't see it....be interested in Posh odds to achieve autos, I would hope it was a good price if I was a betting man.
Best odds available for top 2 finish 10/1. Given the run ins, they could do it but not a risk I would take at those odds. Although those odss could tumble if Derby and Bolton both slip up in their next 2 games (which is possible) and Peterborough capitalise on what looks (on paper) to be 2 relatively easy games. ? Back at 10s and hope to lay off after those 2 games
