After all of the speculation, I believe that Will Still continues to be the clubs first choice.

He's the young exciting, up and coming coach that fits the clubs philosophy. If you've ever seen clips of his training, you can see how easily he coaches in multiple languages which would be a huge boost for the French contingent here.

All 3 of his head coach roles to date were all taken in difficult circumstances where he has not just been able to steady the ship, but to thrive. He's shown he can be a firefighter and have a team playing beyond their expectations. Now despite having his better players sold to rivals every transfer window, he's still getting results and they look to finish higher again this year than last.

It's fair to say he's not been at a club where he can instill his preferred style of football and be on the front foot, but that's why he's not at a Premier League club already.

I think the club and coach are a good match.

Thelin is an interesting coach, but I thought he was off to Aberdeen? That was certainly in the news the last week or so. I would have thought if he was in the frame again it would have been done straight after Beale went.

Could also spin it as only 1 defeat in last 6, including 2 good draws against PSG and Lens, and a draw against an inform Lyon side.

Still has had a great season when you take in the context of having players sold and not replaced, half his team going to AFCON and key players being injured.

I'd be delighted with Still or Heckingbottom out of the names recently linked.

If it is Will Still, the fume will be off the scale when we don't announce him just after our last game. French league doesn't finish till 3 weeks later so I can't see them announcing him till after they've finished.

It feels like the only thing a lot of our fans can agree on is the need to be angry.

I'm frustrated at how the season has gone myself but the logic of the anger doesn't make a lot of sense at times.

The "we need a coach now" crew won't be happy with the available managers at this point in time.

The "we need an experienced coach" crew won't be happy when that experience includes failure or mediocrity at one or two clubs (someone like Heckingbottam or Rowett).

The "we need a young innovative coach" crew will be unhappy when it's Michael Beale <laugh>

Everyone just needs to take a deep breath, let those in charge pick their man and see if lessons have been learnt. It feels like such a waste of energy given that it'll be October really before we have a good indication of whether we've got some of the big decisions right.

Exactly mate. The lack of leaks coming out of the club, about anything, leaves some nervous and feeling the need to fill the void in news. This often leads to the negatives coming to the fore as the negatives create more buzz and attention.

SUNDERLAND won't be appointing a new head coach until the summer, with Mike Dodds confirming he fully expects to remain in charge until the end of the season.
Interim head coach Dodds says Black Cats bosses are still going through the process of assessing and speaking to candidates for the job - but the new man won't be in place before the end of the season.

It always appeared likely that Sunderland would wait until the summer to make an appointment, but a dismal run of just one win in nine games and the manner of Monday's 5-1 hammering at home to Blackburn has led to questions about whether the club's hierarchy need to act now in a bid to lift spirits among supporters

Asked whether he still expects to be in charge until the end of the season, Dodds said in his press conference on Friday: "Yeah, I do."

He added: "They're going through a recruitment process at the moment. My focus is on the team.

"With all due respect I was really hurt by Monday. I stand at the side of the pitch and take great pride in the way I set football teams up. That's the first time in a long, long time I've stood at the side of the pitch and been embarrassed.

"I have to correct that, so my focus has been purely on making sure we right some wrongs."

Reims boss Will Still and Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl are both said to be on Sunderland's radar, as is former Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom, who has been a candidate for the Stadium of Light vacancy in the past.

Didn't realise Mike was only 37! Also, never played football, went straight to coaching at 18.

Ideally I would like Cooper to come in but I seriously doubt that will happen so I'm not sure who else I would want. IMO the Championship is different to other leagues as there's so much competition where teams can beat each other, do ideally I would prefer someone who has coached in the championship previously and knows there league

Feel sorry for him me. Big ask going from a coach to a head coach way out of his depth that isn't his fault. A lot saying new coach needs his own staff but dodds etc were there for mowbray and nobody questioned him then when we were flying last season. I'm looking forward to the summer and I think we will get back on track next year. Recruitment is massive in all aspects next season, however the model will be up and running properly in summer as we have players worth good money. Then I feel that will get the ball rolling, make 60 mill invest 30 mill type of thing.

I’d be over the moon with Steve or Will Still and happy with Heckingbottom quite frankly.

The big stumbling block this coming summer is the Euro's which will delay the movement of players in the PL and the EFL.
I don't expect us to make much progress in the player recruitment until late in the window (as usual!), as PL clubs look at their squads to see who they can sell, adding new players to their squads and who goes out on loan.

It's a fascinating league with so many different manager profiles.

There's the proven Championship managers - Farke, Wagner, Corberan, Robins etc.

The managers who have came up from the lower leagues and done well - McKenna, Lowe

Then those with no experience in England who are turning clubs around - Rohl, Cifuentes.

I don't think a specific profile of head coach is a necessity for success in this league, but a good one absolutely is.

Cooper would be unbelievably ambitious, but would probably be unattainable in my opinion. I just think his stock is high enough that he'll hold on for a Premier League job.

The gossip is that Cooper is still being paid off, by Forest, in no rush and will wait to see who's sacked in the PL next season.

I think we can forget him tbh.
