Good points RV about the old Hennessy and your choice has every chance. The fact that he is a second season chaser seems to be a huge advantage.

Ten of the last thirteen winners have fallen into that category.Of the second season lot,the highest winning mark has been 161 recorded by Denman, who also won off 174,smashing all previous recent trends in 2009.

What is completely staggering is that the last thirteen winners, apart from Denman in 2007 but including him in 2009,have won only 6 races between them after winning the Hennessy!!..2 of them recored by Madison de Berlais and 7 of the last 13 victors never winning again!

A more attritional race than one would have thought.

The last 13 winning marks have been...139,136,137,145,149,140,142,151,145,161(tank),150,174(tank) and 156.

I'm not a trends guy per se,but it's hard to ignore the fact that second season runners are apparently extremely well treated.

Still mulling over my final bet/s...it's gonna be a modest one mind you.

3.10 Newbury: MICHEL LE BON (NAP)

Paul Nicholls talks in his Betfair column that his 'safest' bet would be AiteenThirthyThree but remarks that if he could guarantee a clean round of jumping, Michel Le Bon would have a great chance. He thinks this is a horse that can develop into a Gold Cup runner, and I don't care what you say- you don't think a horse is a Gold Cup candidate if his jumping worries you. There was enough in his interview to suggest this fella could run a big race and it has actually been his target for 18 months.

Ruby in many ways has gone for the sensible selection on the favourite, but I get the impression they think Michel is very talented and off 146, if he can jump well he can get involved.

He has schooled 200 fences and also done two racecourse gallops in preparation. He has shown a liking for Newbury already and I am hopeful his jumping has improved in his time off the track.

2.05 Newbury: TITAN DE SARTI- Did not live up to expectations last season but ran good races behind Sam Winner and Cedre Bleu- both who are expected to go on to good things as second season racers for Paul Nicholls.

Plenty of schooling with Nicky Henderson might have done this horse the world of good and if he shapes as well as A Media Luz did on reappearance, then that sort of improvement would see him go close when in receipt of such big weight from Rock On Ruby.

    Newcastle:

    Leg 2: Quetzal (3) / Teenando (8)
Leg 3: Cue To Cue (8) / Miss Khalifa (9)

    72 @ 20p
    £14.40

    Singles Bets

    CUE TO CUE 1.10 NEWCASTLE
Very impressive at the course last time out, and he can follow up. This is a stronger race, but he will relish the extra distance, and will attempt another bold bid. 9/2 Various

    ZARU (ew) 2.55 NEWCASTLE
Ran very well for a long way over C&D last time out when fading on the run-in when hitting the last. This is a dreadful race, and he should go well again at double-figure odds. 12/1 Victor Chandler

    RAYA STAR 2.05 NEWBURY (NAP)
He was very impressive when turning a competitive handicap into a procession at Wetherby. He is on the upgrade, and if he is in the same form, he should be difficult to beat. 9/1 Ladbrokes

    Alright chaps,

Nightmarishly good racing today. Could be staying in for the rest of the month. Got to put up old (8!) Carruthers again for the Hennessey. Lots of talk of him being fitter and healthier than last year, 10lb lower, so must have some sort of chance after finishing 6th. Wish that Noel Fehily was on him as they got on well last time.

Will also be perming all the others against PC in forecasts just in case. Incidentally if you ever do forecasts in small fields including anything other than the favourites then I suggest you do csfs rather than tote as they seem to pay better.

    Good luck all.

Obviously Nicholls hasn't worked the oracle with Double Expresso - 23lbs pull in the weights with Lackamon but still rubbish. Winner looks progressive though <ok>

Nice little schooling session for Peddlers Cross - jumped accurately again and coasted home - can't say much more than that really. David Bass very easy on the runner up.

    Afternoon lads

Really looking forward to the racing today. Will have it on the tele with Man U v Toon on my laptop. Think the Giant Bolster, if he gets round, will go very close. Interested by the price on Michel le Bon given his absense. Must also have a chance. Ideally Neptune Colonges, can't we dream after last week!! Anyone spot the aptly named Henderson runner on the Newbury card today? (No prize :D)

I notice that those Irish h'cap hurdles are quite a minefield for punters.I however have a system.

Select the one that on form has no f****** chance and back it.Simple.

Keep up the good work Dan!..afternoon Oddy.

Looking at todays results i'm quite glad i bet infrequently!...those last two Sue Smith runners,in particular Douglas Julien were crystal ball jobs...no chance on the book.
