when the saints went in front they looked a class above, but for me they were to casual with their passing and also didn't factor in your incredible late winners that you have an extraordinary habit of getting.......and if you can score from 18 yards after slipping and poking home the winner then you know the fat lady is certainly doing her best to get you home ....it's a 3 horse race now, i think the saints are done
As Spanish & I commented on the subs, never have I seen such an important change of players. Hamadi much better game, Taylor, Broady, Clarke and Sarmiento all played their part in a real gamechanger. And Davis superb assists must be breaking records. A memorable, perhaps season defining day at PR. Crowd going mental. And you could see how much it meant to KM. I must change my pacemaker!
Superb resilience and character to win that match. Absolute credit to the team, the fans, and most importantly McKenna for managing the squad and making the changes at the right time. At the 60 minute mark, I thought that was it for us. We were slow to the ball and looked tired. Defensively, we were too passive and leaky. Morsy was incredibly lucky to stay on the pitch and Downes looked to have had his number. Then we made the right changes, pushed forward, and come away with all three points. We just never give up. A memorable, magnificent, momentous Monday. Hopefully we can beat that lot on Saturday and really set ourselves up strongly for the home stretch.
Against, probably, the best footballing side in the division we've somehow managed to come away with a win.Never say die!!! I heard a stat on Radio Suffolk that our January signings have scored 14 goals between them,is that right?? COYB!!!
Outstanding, the mentality of this team is unbelievable. I thought Southampton looked very good first 60 minutes with Downes absolutely bossing it in midfield...I thought he looked good whilst he was here but boy he looked the best midfielder I've seen at this level. Southampton were getting through us quite easily and our achilles heel again was too much space in our full back positions..but that's the risk we take with our attacking team. Subs made a huge difference, individual brilliance from Sarmiento and Broadhead but I thought Taylor helped us wrestle a bit more control in midfield and probably pushing for a start...don't think Luongo has quite been at the same level he was last year for the past few months. Psst 2 performances we weren't at our best but we have quality and find ways to win, the mentality of this team is unbelievable. Fingers crossed both Burns and Moore aren't out too long, both key to the way we play.
So, would we like to see the signing of Downes back here if still available? I think he would thrive under KM, and hopefully lose his theatricals. And coached to play less of a holding role. Moreover, he could take over from Morsy one day. Thats assuming of course that Sam would talk to him, after yesterdays performance!
Without a shadow of a doubt. Always thought he'd be prem class. We need to start looking at a replacement for Morsy as hes probably got one more season in him. Luongo also feel time could be up with us after this season, so that's two CM's needed for next season
Agree Stretchy, very different club to when he was last here. And if we do go up and Saints stay down, its a no-brainer!
Nah, still doesn't do it for me, sorry. Just hasn't quite that x factor or stand out in any particular way. Morsy is a real leader and just knows when to step up, when to take charge. Downes just doesn't have that.
I feel sure that KM would coach him and bring him along the leadership journey. He bossed things fir 60 mins yesterday.
Agree gaffer, of all the games I've seen this season ive not seen a midfielder dominate in the way Downes did yesterday. I think he's comfortably the best opposition midfielder I've seen this season and exactly the type of player we need to keep this team progressing
That was a ****in' fantastic game!!! Saints bossed us for the whole of the first half and I was pleased to go in at 2-1, knowing that McK would be able to tweak it. Second half we started aggressively and got Southampton's attention. Although we started the half brightly, the momentum didn't really shift until the triple substitution. Hutch on the left didn't work that well so I was pleased to see Jackson (terrible first touch for most of the game) and Tuanzebe (roasted all game) go off for Broady and Clarke. Taylor for Mass was also a good call as I thought Luongo sent too many passes astray. The momentum shift was instant. Hutch looked like a different player once on the right supported by Clarke and Taylor not only played some neat passes but got stuck in with tackles too. Leif was dead on his feet for a large portion of the second half but still found the energy to get the cross in for the final goal. In all honesty, once the game had swung in our favour, I kind of expected us to win. Southampton were good though, slick passing and great movement caused us loads of problems but for all the individual quality, they couldn't match us for desire and willing to do everything you can for the good of the team Six games to go, we march on!!!!
Yeah, maybe, still don't think he'll ever have the competitiveness or composure under pressure, understanding of the game, that Samy has.
